BANGKOK, 31 July 2018 (NNT) – Thailand's Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) has coordinated with 59 provinces in anticipation of heavy rains over the next one to two days with the Prime Minister instructing all provinces to integrate aid measures urgently and asking citizens stay aware of the situation while avoiding unfounded rumors on social media.

Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-ocha has voiced concern for citizens being affected by flooding following several consecutive days of heavy rain. He acknowledged reports of rising waters in the northeast and other regions and that both transport and farming are now being impacted.

The PM has pressed provincial governors, via the Ministry of Interior, to work with other agencies to provide aid where needed and to survey any damage so compensation can be provided.

The DDPM is coordinating with 59 provinces, comprising 17 in the north, 20 in the northeast, eight in the central and 14 in the southern region, calling on them to prepare for situations that may arise from stormy conditions.

They have been told to set water levels appropriately and to inspect reservoirs, dams and communities along slopes. They are to prepare rapid response teams and equipment for handling flood conditions.

Citizens who face flooding are urged to contact their local DDPM office or its 24 hour hotline 1784.

Why would he want to invoke a flood?

Has Noah finished the ark? One thing's for sure - those 'new improved' Phuket Lifesavers 4.0 won't be much use with or without a flood.

There are 12 months in a year....maybe preparations could include building canals and other methods of moving water to prevent some of this water rather than waiting for the event and telling people to get a boat? Leadership....

Soooo...let me get that straight...

a ) there have been massive mud-slides, due to heavy rain

b ) there have been 13 somebodys, trapped in a cave, due 'tis the rainy season

c ) there will be heavy rains in the next 2 to 3 days

...and this doofus starts flood- preparations NOW?

I know, it will be a tragedy and many lifelyhoods ore even lives will be lost, but...I can't wait for the "but but Thaksin"- group to mention a certain brand of fancy boots, when they find out, that their posterboys are as ridiculously underprepared, when it comes to flooding, as EVERY....SINGLE....Thai- government...EVER!

Yes its called planning ahead, but the Thai slogan seems to be live for today for tomorrow may never come, but it usually does, short memories are a boon here.
