Knee arthroscopy surgery in Bangkok recommendations

Featured Replies

Hello,

looking for recommendations on a good orthopedic doctor/ surgeon and hospital, to operate a torn meniscus.

Have heard of Dr. Panya at Bumrungrad, and Dr. Chachai in samitivej.

Any other recommendations on other Doctors and other hospital facilities in Bangkok?

Thank you.

Hi Sheryl. Thank you for you feedback. I have no insurance cover so checking checking for all options. Bumrungrad and Samitivej are very expensive hospitals and I know that this procedure isn’t cheap! If there is another hospital / Doctor that can provide the same care and expertise for a more reasonable price I’ll consider it!

Thanks

Is it sure you need surgery? Small meniscus tears usually do not.

In addition, the tyope of surgery needed varies with the type and location of tear and this will influence cost and which surgerons can best do it.

So Unless it is 100% certain that surgery is required and you already know which type of surgery you need, likely to be successful, I suggest you consult Dr Panya anyhow, consultation alone is not that costly and not a few TV members have avoided unnecessary expensive surgery by seeing him (including people told by other orthos they needed surgery).

If surgery is unavoidable, and you cannot afford it at a private hospital, the least expensive option is a government hospital.

The best expertise in this in govt hospitals is at Lerdsin Hospital. I do not know if they have an "after hours" or "premium" clinic but nowadays many government hospitals do, I suggest you have a Thai speaker call and ask. If so, go in person and try to get an appointment with Prof. Suriyapong Saowaprut

best to bring a Thai speaker with you when you go

If they have a private channel like this it will still be much, much less expensive than a private hospital.  Going through the public channel, I don't recommend if you can avoid it, as then you cannot choose your doctor and much of the care (and the surgery) will be done by residents in training.

Be prepared for a lower level of nursing care and rehab, though, even through after hours channel

Dr Panya,

good price and great Job.

He does it by Arthroscopy and just 24 hrs you go home if you wish, return to pull the bottle out 5 days later.

Samitivej is also recommended by a mate of mine, but the price..

Cost at Bumrungrad and Samitivej is about the same.
