Wives face jail for slapping husband's mistresses, says Thai media

It is often said in Thailand that legitimate wives have every right to slap the face of mistresses who steal their husbands.

Few Thais would begrudge the "mia luang" from giving the "mia noi" a good righteous slap.

Sanook reported that the issue was central in the news as a popular Thai soap currently airing on TV featured such a situation.

Nothing was done to the woman in the soap, it appears.

But in real life Sanook said that was not the case.

Without appearing to ask a single lawyer they said that Article 391 provided for a jail term of one month and a fine of 10,000 for slapping someone - common assault.

Worse would happen if the mistress's distress was filmed and posted online. Then computer crime number 16 could mean three months and a 60,000 baht fine.

Even worse still would happen if clothes were pulled off the victim. That could mean 10 years in jail and a 200,000 baht fine.

Such assault on a child could mean 15 years inside.

A spate of ask the lawyer cases has been in the Thai media recently though in this story Sanook quoted no lawyer in their analysis of the law.

Appalling maybe but just a reflection of the low morals and human behavourial standards of present day Thai society.

Yes, you are probably right. The level of violence, especially domestic violence, in thee shows is terrible.

A slap is a reasonable way to vent exceptional anger, and, frankly, is not a horrible thing. And such a release of anger could possibly prevent escalation to serious violence, like gun play. Have we all become such feeble minded pussies that we cannot endure a well deserved slap in the face?

It’s pussies that got the story out there in the first place ?

Hey, it's not the mistresses who are doing the cheating. It's the husbands. If anyone deserves a good B-Slappin' it's the two (more likely the 3, 4, 5+) timing husbands.

Takes 2 to tango !!

Both parties at fault

Why would assaulting another person not be a crime?  Its assault.  If there are domestic problems, work them out through a therapist, elders or the divorce courts.  But no one should be given free license to commit battery on another person.

So you on your high stool, think that Western morals are higher than Thai? What about Trump? What about the tens of thousands of Westerners who come to Thailand for sex?

However the reality is unprovoked kick to the head is basis for a 500Baht fine.  OK assuming you are Thai and the recipient is a non Thai.  Well this is according to the BIB in Pattaya. Other way round, probably max fine plus 300%, but do not see that one to often.

Cheers

Why is this even a news story. Assault is assault. Some of the behaviour portrayed in Thai soaps is appalling.

The acting is even worse.
