Opened at 11am to long lines of people trying to get inside.

Traffic all around that area a total nightmare and will be worse this weekend.

Tons of stores 90% of the Thai people cannot afford to buy

anything in.

Star of the show is the Foodcourt - but not nearly as good

of a selection as Terminal 21 in Bkk.

Four sentences all negative trash.

And your comment about the food court is totally bogus seems you did not even go there......

So I decided to brace myself and headed to T21.  It was even more impressive than I thought.  Seems larger than the Bangkok one because it is very long.  2.5 floors of food and restaurants.  Pier 21 was busy but seats were available.  Not any different than Pier 21 in BKK during lunch time.  Took a few photos which I will post when I get more time.  Decided to try Italian Osteria which was fantastic.  340 baht for half chicken.  My Aranciata at 160 baht seemed a bit pricey though.

It was only crowded around the restaurants.  The shopping parts especially those specialty shops I like on the Tokyo floor didn't have many customers.  The restaurants discussed here like Hawker Chan, Beerfest, Marugame Seimen were among the empty restaurants.  I tried a chicken sample at Chutney Indian and it was pretty good.  Will need to eat there soon.

My only gripe is they should have built a baht bus pickup area on the mall grounds.  Police were stopping baht buses from stopping in front of the mall and even around the dolphin bend. You have to basically walk all the way to the start of Beach Road to catch a baht bus.  Luckily we caught one in between police and hopped on.

Some pictures from today's opening. Lot of people but it wasn't as crowdy as I expected.  Lots of restaurants to check out , including Pier 21.

I still think T21 in Bangkok is bigger , but this is very similar.

I am here now.

A major cluster 10,000's of people.

What a spectacular place by far the best mall in Pattaya and one of the best in the country!

A little over the top don't you think?  I was there too.  It's just a mall but a good addition to Pattaya just the same.  There are a lot of new restaurants not already in Pattaya, and a lot that already are.  Prices are quite high in a lot of them.  There are two italian places with nice look italian style pizza by the slice.  Not cheap at 120-220 baht a slice. Not very big slices either.  Of all the expensive places, the italian places are the only ones I can see myself going too on rare occastions.  Maybe the Amporn all you can eat seafood buffet for (I think) 600 baht.  Or, I can go to Nai Por Thai buffet with lots of the same seafood just down the street on N. Pattaya road and it's only 299 baht there.

It DOES have the $2000 electronic toilets with spray and dry feature just like T21 Bkk.  So a great place to go and take a good dump.  It also has the decent food court prices like Bkk. Portion sizes look ok for now but I expect those sizes to shrink down to T21 Bkk sizes eventually.  It also has a cheap coffee place in the food court like T21 Bkk. I believe a one shot espresso drink (like an Americano) is 27 baht which is a pretty good price.  Hard to find espresso at that price anywhere in Pattaya.

There is an all you can eat sushi place that has a special right now for something like 400 baht.  That includes salmon sashimi so you can easily get your moneys worth just eating that.  That is just a special for the first month.  After that I think it goes up to 800 baht.

The Foodland is just another Foodland.  Nothing special about it.  Not much bigger than the Royal Garden location.

I was there with friends and survived. It was quite an event. Definitely the place to go for food and dining with something for everyone of all tastes and budgets. We ate at PiriPiri and everyone was happy. Others in our group ate a place called So Asean and features food from the ASEAN countries. Not my style at all. Many of the stores were packed with lines at the registers. Didn't visit the smaller shops. Overall a great addition to the eating and shopping scene. All the stores were open and it shows the staff and even the parking attendants have been well trained. One of the major disappointments was Foodland. I was hoping for a Super Foodland with a fantastic selection. What we got was a store smaller with less selection than Pattaya Klang. This is a place to pick up something quickly if you happen to be at T21 only.

Wife visited today, showed some photos. Didn't look like billions of people were cramming in, more like a couple of thou. Maybe the hordes from BKK are still on their way, the bait has been placed. Good news on 2nd not being blocked. Living in hope Nua and Naklua road are the main attack routes and the beautiful south is left to the better people.

How so? All the quality expats live Naklua way, all the chavs and riff-raff are dahn sarf.

One thing pops to mind, the new places that weren't in Pattaya before, did they bring staff from BKK for the start or are they training locals? If they brought BKK staff, there might be a sudden drop in service/food quality when they switch to local.

How's the traffic on 2nd, did the blockade at dolphin stop the entire city?

Friend made the mistake of driving his car on Pattaya Nua and said was stuck for well over and hour and that was for a trip to Makro!!!

I was on my motorcycle and got stuck, that is hard to do and last time that happened in that area was when the international fireworks show was on.

Things will settle down in time and the mall is certainly a welcome addition to that area even if most people just be going for the foodcourt that unfortunately is half the size of the Asoke branch in Bangkok.

As I suspected, 2nd road was backed up quite badly starting all the way back around Soi 6.  Basically the same sort of backups that Central caused.  Of course this is opening day and it may improve as the crowds subside.  But I sort of doubt it.

That's because it's MUCH smaller than the T21 foodcourt in BKK.

I had a look at this sushi buffet too. It has 399+, 599+ and 799+ options  (200 baht opening discounts) and it has a lot more than just sushi (eg. wagyu beef, oysters, shrimp, mussels). I had already eaten when I saw it, but will definitely give it a go another time. You sit at a table and order from a menu, which makes it rather different and special IMO.

I bet you will be able to hear a needle drop in Central Marina mall for months to come....Their food court was not exactly doing great to begin with...

Perhaps not, but that's only because Central Marina is not a busy mall in general. I prefer THAT foodcourt AND the food court at Central Festival. I won't be eating at this new food court - it's a giant unorganised mess.

Photo taken at 1:32 pm just passing Central Festival. At 1:40 pm I was inside T21. Wasn't bad at all for me. There was pouring rain and loud thunder but doesn't bother me one bit.

With no undercover parking for motorcycles other than a small area away from the main building and not connected (that will probably be totally full most of the day and night), T21 is a non-starter for me in bad weather. This was a big oversight of the developers IMO. Central has undercover and very convenient parking for motorcycles. If you park at T21 and it starts to rain, you'll get wet going to your motorcycle, before you have a chance to grab your raincoat. That's really bad if you have a lot of shopping to carry. They have the same problem at Harbor mall.

Yes the food court is smaller than Bangkok , but the good news the prices are the same. We had some discussions about it would be more expensive in Pattaya , just because it's a tourist town , but forget that . Same price for any dish ,  desserts and drinks.

Which basically means 30 baht for my favorite Gyoza, fruit smoothie 25 to 35 baht. And I also tried a hot cup of cappuccino at the coffee place for 35 baht and it was excellent, made from fresh beans.

Managed to take in only a couple of floors since the crowds were too thick, amongst the jam packed restaurants and food stalls with lengthy queues, Hawker Chan was very empty, and it was very scaled down compared to Royal Garden already.

If you hate noise and crowds, stay away for a couple of weekends, most place are running promotions with Thai yelling into microphones to draw crowds, and there's concerts in the middle

There is a Chinese restaurant, as yet unopened, that has zero Thai or English signage. That was intriguing.

Did you notice the statue of a guy making noodles from scratch at that place? That would be kind of special if they do that.

That was well before I went there after the rain stopped.  It wasn't so much that all lanes were jammed.  It was all the baht buses and big buses clogging up a couple lanes.  So only one lane was really opened other than the usual 3.

A friend of mine got stuck in it on a baht bus around 3pm.  It took him about 15 minutes to get from Soi 6 to T21.  He could have gotten out and walked faster than that.
