A story straight out of mystic and medium magazines is captivating the Thais.

 

It involves a disabled man called Surasit who has been charged with raping a 17 year old woman at a resort.

 

Far from being unable to move it has been claimed by the family of the victim that he has reasonable mobility.

 

Some say he can move fast on his knees and can sit up. He can even chat online and make phone calls, despite claims that he couldn't.

 

Surasit has been hailed as the "mystic with flaming eyes". His mum Waneeda defended him as no rapist.

 

She said he didn't lure the victim - the family only use Line and Facebook as a portal for customers in mysticism.

 

Thawee - a man who took Surasit and the alleged victim to a resort at the behest of her elder sister to perform a cleansing ritual - defended the disabled man. He said they used to work together as truckers.

 

Surasit seems to have had some kind of accident.

 

The elder sister became convinced of his mystic powers after he correctly said that she had had an abortion - they had never met.

 

It was arranged to rent two rooms at an auspicious, well placed resort to perform the ceremony. Guests would be in one room and Surasit would be in the other with the 17 year old.

 

After the ritual the family claimed their daughter had been raped.

 

Surasit denies this.

 

Investigations continue.
