Facebook news site "The People Speak (Phuket) remembered the anniversary of the crash of One To Go at Phuket eleven years ago on Sunday.

Flight OG 269 left Don Muang airport bound for the southern Thai city at 2.30pm with 130 souls on-board.

There were 123 passengers, five cabin crew and the two pilots.

The flight landed in heavy rain and skidded off the runway into an embankment before two explosions split the plane in two.

Some 89 people died and 41 were injured in the accident that occurred on September 16th 2007.

The McDonnell Doublas MD-82 plane was attempting to go round after an aborted landing around 3.41pm, according to Wikipedia.

"Reports found that the captain and first officer had worked hours vastly in excess of the legal flight limits; that the first officer attempted to transfer control to the captain during the go-around; that neither pilot initiated a go-around and that the training and safety programs at the airline were deficient. Corruption within One-Two-GO Airlines and the Thai Department of Civil Aviation was a factor for crash investigators," says Wikipedia.

I remember this sad event very well - I was the owner of the airport hotel at that time.

I recall that the monsoon rain was being blown almost horizontally at the time of this crash.

Stats show that in commercial airlines 87% of all crashes were caused by the crew.
