PHUKET:-- The chief of the Tha Chatchai Police has confirmed that the man pulled from the surf unconscious at Mai Khao Beach yesterday remains comatose and now depends on life support.

 

“The man, Ding Suli, 56, is a Chinese-born American, and was rescued by a foreigner at the beach,” Tha Chatchai Police Chief Col Prawit Suttiruangarun explained to The Phuket News this afternoon (Sept 20).

 

“He is an American citizen, but his birth place is China,” Col Prawit said.

Not being pedantic (yes I am),  you are not a drowning victim until you die. But, I digress. I hope this guy recovers. Many people yesterday at Kata Noi deep in water with red flags everywhere.

I was also wondering why east coast beaches were marked as dangerous.

Eh, "A post on the ISLA Facebook page yesterday (May 24) said the warning was issued following a “comprehensive 30-day beach audit of Phuket’s beaches [that] was conducted in April and May of this year."
