UK Tourist Visa for Thai Partners Kids

Featured Replies

Hi All,

My Thai partner is looking to bring her two young kids to the UK for a holiday. My question is very simple:

Can the children apply for the visa on their own in Bangkok? Or does my partner need to be present when submitting the application? My partner will obviously provide a letter of permission when applying.

We plan to provide all the necessary supporting documents via post and then hoping the kids can apply themselves with their grandparents supervision.

Thanks in advance!

Yes my partner is here in the UK with me.

The kids are 13 + 9 years old.

Currently their grandparents are looking after them

She won't need to take them to the Visa Application Centre, the Grandparents can do that.

The applicants will satisfy the Entry Clearance Officers that they are genuine tourists and are not intending to stay with their mother at the conclusion of their trip.

They will need to demonstrate their ties to Thailand all backed up by strong evidence, schooling here, living and care arrangements, I doubt that it will be an easy application, not impossible but your partner really needs to leave no doubt in the ECO's mind.

I would also suggest explaining why they are living in Thailand with their grandparents and do not want to, or cannot, live in the UK with their mother.

If it's because you cannot meet the financial requirement for an adult and two dependent children then be careful what you say. If this is the case it could cause the ECO to think that they are using visit visas to enter the UK with the intention of remaining with their mother.

BTW, are they living with their maternal or paternal grandparents? Who has legal custody, your partner or their father?

Thanks for all the advice. Very helpful.

the kids are currently living with their maternal grandparents.

My partner has legal custody.

The kids don't want to live in the UK. They only want to visit for a holiday.

Thanks
