Iam married to a Thai and we have a child who has both English & Thai passport.I plan a brief trip to UK,I've allready bought the tickets to fly 19th March.Iam going to British Embassy 27th Feb to apply for a visa for my wife.I'll take the flight tickets, bank statements etc etc.My bank statements read good so money not an issue. What I need to know is this 2 weeks between applying and flying enough time to get the visa ? I was told by the Embassy that 3-5 working days is abt right ?

Any advance appreciated

You make your application at UK Visas not at the British Embassy and you can submit by post or courier if it is more convenient. Check 'postal acceptance ' and 'courier acceptance' on the UK Visas site.

You are advised , by the embassy, not to book your flight tickets before you apply for a visa so they are not really necessary.

If you have a solid application then 3-5 working days in person or 2 weeks by courier should be about right, however if your application is borderline your wife may be called for an interview and you could wait a few weeks for that.

You will need more than bank statements, you should concentrate on giving a reason for her to return to Thailand. See notes INF 2

From your OP I assume that you live in Thailand with your wife and child.

If so, the process is very simple as you will be your wife's reason to return and so the turnaround should be a few days. However, as MA says, if they want to clarify something and so require an interview then the wait could be weeks. So make sure all possible questions are answered in your application.

See checklist for Spouse of British citizen (based in Thailand) going to UK for visit . In addition to the items on the list I would also provide details of where you will be staying.
