I have the latest Sony Ericsson PC Suite software for my k750i and have been trying to figure out how to send an SMS directly from my PC to the phone via USB. Sometimes I need to send a message in Thai and well, real pain to do it with a mobile keypad. Nowhere in the PC suite software does it seem to have an option to do this. Can anyone recommend PC software that will allow this?

On another issue. GPRS is active on my phone and I use it when browsing the Internet from the phone. First time I've tried to use the PC suite software to allow me to use the mobile as a modem and it was surprisingly easy. I selected the 'packet switched connection' for it and worked fine. Speed much better then my dialup modem. However, running a cost test and found it was really high. When I first tested the connection I found my prepaid balance dropped 400Baht!. So ran a basic control test by connecting via GPRS, browsing for 5 minutes exactly, then disconnecting. Waited for my balance to change and found it comes out to about 8.24 Baht/minute or 494 Baht/hour!. Packet switching is on-demand use, that is charged only on traffic rather on full-time (modem style) and didn't expect it to be that expensive.

I have no special arrangement with DTAC for any GPRS deals, so wonder if there are packages to make this cheaper or if using full-time mode would be cheaper.

Hi tywais..

To get sms's, pictures or any other files to and from my Sony phone using usb I use the software here - http://fma.sourceforge.net/

However, I find you have to disconnect from the Sony Suite to use it, and then disconnect from the fma software before connecting visa the suite again. FMA does not connect to the internet via GPRS for you

Thanks for the link and will give it a try. Hoping for something transparent that will allow me to type the message, supply the phone number and off it goes.

You should be able to make calls and send sms's from the software, using your mobile.

BTW.. give Dtac a call and fget on one of their GPRS packages..

I used one2call previously and could get 100hrs bt350, 400hrs bt900 - I think dtac do an unlimited for bt1000, but not sure

Are you certain the SE software does not allow you to originate SMSes on your PC? Nokia's PC Suite has supported this feature for years; I use it all the time.

Thanks for the links. It was my impression that the Suite would have it but can find no options in the program for it.

lomatopo, the smsSender works nicely, very small and easy - however it won't send Thai, but will use it for my english text sms due to it's quickness.

Totster - The FMA application works OK, just took a little time to find my way around and being cautious as to not wipe out my address book on the phone. Sends text in Thai with no problems. Only problem it often will say my mobile is out of range and I have to reconnect even though it is on a USB cable. Minor problem.

So thanks to both of you.

I use this with my K750i http://www.fjsoft.at/en/ very nice and easy to use. They update it quite regularly too.

You can send and receive sms, make calls, transfer everything, sync with outlook etc etc. Much better than the Sony software, I use it all the time

That looks good, will give it a try. I use Thunderbird and see they have support for it. Thanks.
