I have read some posts but nothing 100% specific to what I require

1) I am a tourist and currently have a 60 day visa

2) I want to stay in Thailand for 4 months  (Will have a plan ticket with departure dates)

My questions are this :-

1) Whats the best way to get my 60 visa extended for another 60 days, or will I have to apply to the Thai Embassy to get a new 60 day visa

2) Is there any limit on the number of 60 day visa you can get in a year  ?

3) Whats the best way to get a new visa or an Extension for 60 days once in Thailand  ( I will be staying in Bangkok - potentially I would not to fly anywhere to achieve this )

thanks for your assistance and I hope my question is clear

regards

Opor

First you go to nearest emigration, and extend it by 30 days. Next time you need to go out of country for a border run, if you want 30 days on arrival, or go to an embassy to get new 60 days. If you search the forum, you will find updated info on different visa and possibilities.

thanks alot for you reply

Just another question -  then I will have it 100% clear in my head

Can you just get a new 60 day visa -  from Thai immigration say in bangkok without doing the 30 day extension or a border run

Tourist visa's are issued outside of Thailand (60 day stay) and can be extended for an extra 30 days inside Thailand. After the total 90 day stay you would need to leave and come back on another tourist visa or a 30 day visa exempt. Thai immigration inside Thailand does not issue or renew tourist visa's

Sorry to raise this again ................If I leave the country and come back do you automatically get another 30 days . Somebody has been talking to me , to say you only get 15 days as default

could some one clarify this for me

As mentioned already. You could apply for 30 day extension. Its an extension to your existing 60 day "permission of stay" after that you could fly out and upon reentering via air you will obtain a 30 day visa ecempt stamp. This would be simplist. Other option is fly out prior to 60 day date and obtain setv. Since your in bkk I would suggest with both options Saigon as cheap flight and chilled joint. However you did not mention which pp you hold. Many countries are visa exempt to Vietnam. UK for example many are not. eg AU, USA etc. If your not visa exempt to Vietnam you can choose country that is.

If you qualify for a visa exempt entry you would get a 30 day entry by land or air.

Perhaps people are talking about the old 15 day rule at land border crossings that has been rescinded.

Thanks again for you help -  I am a UK citizen .

I have to go and visit somebody in Sa Kaeo and was thinking of crossing into cambodia at aranyaprathet. Can you take 2 steps into cambodia and then come straight back.....or does it have to be the next day..or a few days . (is their a guideline for the amount of time out of the country)

I would avoid doing it at the Aranyaprathet crossing since they have a bad habit of not letting people re-enter the country. At any other crossing it would not be a problem.

You can cross and come back the same day but the Cambodia side may have you pay 300 baht for not staying overnight.

I suggest you do it a little further south at the Ban Laem crossing. Map: https://goo.gl/maps/Fn767XFfTVE2
