Climate change has caused much concern this century, but Thailand is joining the fight against rising temperatures by promising to take action on cutting down greenhouse gas emissions.

They need to start with plastic and bottles. Recycling.

Recycling while very important is not as crucial as reduction in use and production.

Thats fine. We should all do our part. I have my own BPA free water bottles. I try to control my breathing so as not to pump excess C02 into the air. I reuse plastic bags. If you stitch them together with thread you unravel from your old socks, they make excellent ponchos. Straws are very useful. For example, If you fit three or four of the bendable ones together, you can use them to suck out ear wax, much better than going for candling.

Silliness aside, back in the USA in many jurisdictions, recycling is mandatory as are deposits on bottles and cans. That in and of itself lowers carbon footprints, assuming that such a thing makes a difference. Think Global, act local. My biggest bitch about Thailand is it is a pig sty. Small efforts mean more than trying to get a billion chinese to mend their ways.

Reduction in use and production while every economy in the world is measured by yearly growth ???? Itll never happen even for plastics. Most western countries are already placing limits or out right banning them when only about 10% of the worlds plastic in the sea comes from those nations while 90% or more come from Asia and Africa who do basically nothing.

Recycling is great and I am heavily involved in my schools Green Flag programme.

However, the way forward is reducing our usage. Recycling itself will not work.

Well Im old enough to to remember:

Milk in glass bottles that you returned.

Wax paper wrapped sarnies

Wax paper wrapped everything

Breadboxes

Cloth diapers

But look at the different environmental consequences of each. And if you reduce usage, how many folks do you condemn to death....

Those things you mention are biodegradable.

Plastic is not.

They were mostly reusable.

Many plastics can be reused, but are generally not.

If we don’t reduce our usage of single use plastics and other environmentally destructive behaviours, we will face environmental catastrophe.

Oh yes, and as I have said in every post...recycling is important.

I will believe it when I see the planned coal-fired electric plants changed over to gas.

Fair enough, Ill bury a memory stick with all my writings and hope the Octopus people find it after the next Ice Age.

Which is coming if you beleive in cyclical climate change.

I believe that the earth has indeed gone through cyclical changes.

That is not what is happening right now though.

The enviromental catastrophe we are facing now is of humanities doing.

well thailand isnt the place for you to be then in terms of an imminent catastrophe. I suggest the hills of NC, SC, WV, KY or TN. Best places in the world to ride it out.

Nowhere will be safe unless humanity changes it’s behaviour.

Well, I guess most people aren't too optimistic, if the falling birth rate is anything to go by. These are the halcyon days - the calm before the storm, when we live off our principal and b##ger the consequences. Now, there was a time when people took a long term view; indeed, many sacrificed their lives in pursuit of an ideal. Me? I think we're about to find out the answer to the Fermi paradox - real close up and personal. Hopefully, I'll be dead long before the SHTF. Ha!

Maybe... but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t try.

yes... however I think taxes are not the way to go.

Damn, that water vapor!

Yep, water vapour is the most abundant greenhouse gas, making up about 0.5% of the gaseous composition of the atmosphere. Carbon dioxide is at around 0.038%.

There seems to be a correlation between Global mean surface temperatures and anthropogenic c02 emissions over the last 200 years, but its not proven.

Don’t care what the cost is in taxes.

Cool pay my share. In fact, I assume you are living under a scenario wherein you consume and/or produce nothing so as not to have a negative impact on climate?
