Sending money from Thailand through Western Union

Featured Replies

Hi everybody, I would like to know id it's possible for a Thai citizen to send money from Thailand to Malaysia through Western Union and if yes, is there any financial limit to that?

you should have said Thai person download the WU app and see how far you get with the process.

WU would be LAST choice. Not sure if Transferwise is an option, but Dee Money Thailand certainly is...

Easy answer Western Union would be the most expensive of the many options.

That's your opinion. Monday I used Western Union to transfer £5000 to my Thai bank. Using my UK debit card, the cash was in my Thai A/C on Tuesday. The charge? A BIG FAT ZERO

Did they make money on the conversion rate?

In my experience WU is the most expensive, difficult, intrusive, inconvenient and slow method. Of course, may have improved since it was about the only service readily available. Last time I used WU was 7 years ago and since then more inexpensive, convenient and user friendly options available.

Transferwise & World Remit are just 2 that immediately come to mind.

The short answer is yes.

As to maximum amounts drop by an office & ask.

I like their system for claiming at the other end which is often for me peace of mind

& they are always very friendly

Of course. And that was for sure a lot considering that amount.

I also doubt there was no charge, never saw (beside during a promotion) that you can send money "for free" with them.

WU has a bad experience. Online sent WU from my ATM or US bank

account don’t recall which. I was in Thailand.

Money left source to WU. Waited the estimated delivery from WU and followed up. A week later not sent. Finally I was told the money would be reversed and put back in my account.

The reason they didn’t send was that I wasn’t physically in US.
