I went to Soi Arab...and lived!

Last night I was wandering and got off at Nana. Walked down to Soi 3/1 is it?, and wandered that back alleys to come out on Soi Arab. I havent been on that  back alley in maybe 6 years. I noticed that there hardly is any Thai food there at all, even via the vendors. But plenty of mideast food. The touts were annoying, one guy was like the proverbial cartoon character with watches up and down the arms, Rolex, Rolex. Yep. OK.

Soi Arab wasn't to crowded from the intersection of Sukhumvit to past the Grace, what was amazing to me was the number of Asian tourists walking around (by that I mean Chinese, Japanese and Korean). I considered some Shwarma, but figured I could wait for a recomendation here, the Bamboo looked good and I know its been there for years but I've never tried it.

All in all, it was an OK people watching stroll, the guys in the robes and round caps with scraggly beards make me nervous since that all seem to have that insane look in their eyes, but maybe thats just me as a westerner. The chicks that hang out in front of the Grace are pretty hefty, but Im sure thats the taste of the denizens. There were NO ladyboys I could see which was nice.

What kind of farang food did you wind up having?   I was going to mention Beirut Cafe @ Ploenchit Center, ironic you wound up cruising Soi Arab.

yeah, the food at the Beirut Cafe in the basement of the Ploenchit center ain't bad, it's been some years for me though...one thing I didn't like was that they served nan bread instead of arabic bread...if the folks up on soi 3 can get arabic bread why can't they?

there's also the place across from the irish pub on soi nana that useta be cheap but ain't no more...food's OK though...same deal with the nan bread...they had arabic bread when they had shwarma out front but when the cops closed down all the sidewalk establishments the arabic bread disappeared as well as the schwarma...

Did you see too many videos with the good Americans fighting the bad Arab terrorists?

In my opinion they look obviously different than westerners. But I never thought anyone of them in that area look especially threatening.

I have just returned from a couple of weeks of cruising the Isle of Wight.

Here I am, still alive and kicking. What have I learnt from this adventure on the dark side of the UK ?

Better weather than the mainland ( everyday sunny and fine ) and if you like Harley Davidson's then this is the place for you. Never seen so many Harleys in such a small space.

Countless Harleys ridden by very old men living out their retirement dreams in this very sub tropical paradise. Even have their own denim colors !! Fantasy land at its best. Even saw a couple of biker babes on sportsters well into their '70s.

I know because I just had my 61st birthday there and can say that I need less time on the ironing board than they to look the part.

Wine at only 4 pounds a bottle and really nice beaches make this a real cool hangout for anyone struggling to survive in Pattaya
