Keep Maya Bay closed to tourism, says DNP online poll

PHUKET:-- An overwhelming 99.1% of people voting in an online poll by the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation (DNP) have called for the department to keep both Maya Bay and Loh Samah Bay closed to tourism.

 

The DNP poll was launched online at 4pm today (Oct 12).

 

As of 5:50pm, a total of 8,830 votes had been cast, with 99.1% voting “Agree” to close both popular sites to tourism.

Yes, keep it closed.

 

I did notice however that since the decision was made to keep it closed, the buoy line closing it has been moved further back, much deeper into the bay.

Mostly it's the boat operators throwing anchor that have destroyed the reef and Chinese tourists trashing the place. Very few farangs go there anymore.

25 years ago there were no boats at all in maya bay..it's a short walk to the other side of the island where all the ferries are. I don't understand why those speedboats didn't use the piers on the other side.
