BANGKOK, 22 October 2018 (NNT) – As Thailand is set to take up the chairmanship of ASEAN next year, the Ministry of Commerce’s efforts are now geared towards preparing the country for the challenge.

Oramon Sapthaweetham, director-general of the Trade Negotiations Department says related agencies including those under the supervision of the Commerce Ministry, have met on several occasions to discuss plans and activities to be carried out during Thailand's term in office as ASEAN chairman.

Matters to be included at next year’s ASEAN summits and meetings are trade, investment, the promotion of small and medium enterprises, tourism, digital development, sustainable development, and human development.

The meetings between related agencies and the preparatory committee will resume late this month to compile a report regarding topics to be discussed by member states of ASEAN. The report will be presented to the next ASEAN Summit.
