The Mae Sot police chief and five of his subordinates have been moved to inactive posts after two Chinese fugitives escaped from detention during a party at the police station.

National police chief Pol General Jakthip Chaijinda signed an order on Tuesday to have second acting Mae Sot police station chief Pol Colonel Manas Sornpraphan and five other senior officers moved to inactive posts at the police headquarters in Bangkok.

Police sources said the order came after two Chinese fugitives, who are wanted back home, escaped their detention cell on Friday night while police officers were enjoying a party hosted by a Chinese migrant in the district.

The two fugitives were among the 12 Chinese people arrested on October 23 after Immigration Bureau acting chief Maj-General Surachate Hakpal ordered Mae Sot police to investigate allegations that Chinese migrants were providing wireless Internet access from Thailand to casinos on the Myanmar side.

Police also seized 50 sets of wireless Internet streaming devices from the detainees.

On Friday, the Mae Sot Court slapped a Bt3,000 fine on each of the 12 detainees and ordered them to be deported back to Myanmar. However, sources said two of the detainees, who have now escaped, were to be handed over to the Chinese authorities.

This would be serious if it wasn't so screamingly funny. You'd think that for a police force that's found its way into the public eye, lately, and for all the wrong reasons, they'd be doing every last thing possible to show their better side, but this bit of news just takes the entire biscuit.

No coincidence or connection at all. Please move along

The Chinese fugitives got away because there was nobody to ring the bell, and all the numpties were sleeping.????

That must be a contradiction there. Surely these guys were already inactive to allow the fugitives to escape.

Wonder if there was "youthful" entertainment provided at that particular party?

No drama, they are now officially Chinese tourists adding to the numbers.

That would depend on how much was in the escape plan budget of the Chinese migrant who threw the party.

"Chinese migrants were providing wireless Internet access from Thailand to casinos on the Myanmar side"

I didn't know they were sophisticated enough to do that.

"Saved by the bell" is becoming the running gag of the year.

...two Chinese fugitives escaped from detention

What a harsh word, wouldn't escorted be a much more precise term?

They've gone to Chiang Mai to feed the pigeons!

Erm...say what?

No problem...the envelopes were thick, no need for this crummy police job anyway!

Yes indeed, especially as they (fugitives) were working for the gambling mafia in the casinos across the border.
