After 4 1/2 years, the penny might have finally dropped . . . Thai education simply needs re-organising, re-motivating, re-staffing/managing and a unified and universally accepted and practised curriculum put in place, with the old 'rubbish' text books burnt and new material sourced, more than likely from other better-performing countries and which discourage the totally counter productive rote-learning practice. Teachers might actually have to think about teaching . . . for a change. I thought their idea of successful "education" is already in full gear: 3
hotchilli Posted October 31, 2018 Posted October 31, 2018 haven't we heard all this before... with the previous reforms that were going to cure the education of the populous? Look forward to reading next years reform !!! 1

Known elsewhere as brainwashing! Indeed. Indoctrination is a core principle, and yet becoming more of a struggle with each passing generation. Obsessive institutional reform plays out as a survival mechanism for the ruling classes. 3

If a student don't understand what teacher teach and ask a question in class, teachers take it as an insult and other students see him/her as a black sheep. They have been like that all through 10+ years of all his/her education. Now I understand why they say Yes, while understand nothing. This where I get a bit of a guilt trip. Our son had gone to elementary and part of middle school in Singapore before we moved to Thailand. The school culture shock was hard for him. He'd just about been 'conditioned' when he went to college in the US, and lo and behold, he was of course, expected to question and challenge. For him, our move back to Thailand, educationally wise was a nightmare. It turned out OK in the end, but those 4 years he spent, in a fairly decent private Thai school, were not very productive. 1

Grusa Posted October 31, 2018 Posted October 31, 2018 I have some difficulty with the concept that "education reform" and "family planning" belong together in this article. Apart of course from the obvious, if there are no children, it is not necessary to have an education policy, or system. 1
joecoolfrog Posted October 31, 2018 Posted October 31, 2018 How can you teach children critical thinking when their parents are banned from expressing it ? 1
anon2736434 Posted October 31, 2018 Posted October 31, 2018 (edited) Oh no worries there will be a new education minister along soon with a new plan, they seem to change quite often based upon the past history of the MOE. back home we would say this plan is going south. And dinking too much M150 leads to the enevitable; sex. Do Thai women understand the concept of sex while the footy is on tv? The wife was flaunting about the room in her flimsy, see-through nighty. She said to me while I was engrossed in the game. "Darling!" "Yes dear, what is it?" "Ever heard of sixty-nine?" "Yes." "What position is it? She asked. Liverpool had just been awarded a free kick just outside the area. "It's a number between 68 and 70." "That's what I thought." She replied.
