Applying for US Tourist Visa as a Foreign Student in Thailand

Featured Replies

Hey guys!

I'm planning on going to the US to travel for about 3 weeks in April (taking advantage of the Songkran break).

Here's where it gets complicated: I'm a Filipino studying here in Bangkok on a student visa. Next semester is my last one (from January to mid-May). To prove that I intend on coming back to Bangkok, I plan to show documents from the uni saying that I'm a student, and showing the classes that I have registered for that semester.

The only problem is my student visa expires on May 5. The visa lady here at uni says that I can apply for extension but they'll only give me until the end of June. She thinks some embassies require that your visa is valid for 5 or 6 months after you come back, but she's not sure.

Questions are:
1. Is there a requirement from the US embassy that your visa needs to be valid for 6 months after the planned trip?
2. I am working part time with a company now until I graduate. They seem to be keen on taking me after graduation (work permit and everything) but I don't think they can process everything this early. Would a letter from them strengthen my case at all?

I'd appreciate any input or help! It's a bit complicated so feel free to ask clarifications.
