Thai Region 5 immigration and the Chiang Mai labor office announced the arrest of a Chinese man and 12 others for trying to hire Thai women for traditional massage in China.

Arrested and named was Mr Mao Xianjian.

His organisation had gone online to advertise for "pretty Thai women under the age of thirty who are expert in traditional massage". Successful applicants would be taken free to work in Chendu in Sichuan province.

The women would be paid 5,000 yuan or about 30,000 baht a month with free board and lodging.

Applicants were interviewed at the Chiang Mai Exhibition and Convention Center.

But no one had either told or got permission from the labor department.

All those arrested face prosecution under labor laws.

Might be a big shock to you, but only a tiny tiny proportion of Thai women work in bars looking for business from farangs.

. And they're probably not all on the game like your bar friends either.

Yes, i agree, probably not all are in the game :coffee1:

All expenses paid plus 30000 baht a month with free board and lodging just to do tradition massage, yea, right.

I`m sure none of those girls would need much convincing to take up the offer and I`m sure they all know exactly what the job entails once they arrive in China.

This is happening all over Asia, Thai girls recruited to work in massage parlours and spas that in-fact are sex workers offering sexual services and working as escorts. Sri Lanka is a favourite for Thai women, recruited by agencies online and facebook, go there as tourists with no visas and then work in hotel spas and escort agencies.

How the Chinese guy went wrong is by openly trying to recruit girls at the conference centre instead of advertising online. Dumb move.

Not much info here but there are 2 ugly sides to this equation :-

As alluded to by @DoctorG many foreign women, usually North Korean or Vietnamese, are sold into slavery in China as "forced wives" to rural men. The man's family is 100% in on it and ensures the woman is kept from escaping or seeking help and is used as a slave in every way. Through foetal gender selection, China has a massive gender imbalance so this practice will only get worse.

The other side of the equation is that for Thais to legally work in labour jobs abroad, the process must go through the Ministry of Labour. The bribes to gain approval are eye-watering and of course, these costs are eventually loaded on to the Thai worker either directly as debt or through salary retention.

The impression given in this headline is that they would not be arrested if the were trying to recruit "ugly" ones.

If that's what the law says, it would certainly be a strange. In my opinion, the white, tall girls with cheap plastic surgery faces are ugly to me, but i suppose the thai law would state that they are the pretty ones?

She could find herself married to a Chinese farmer in the middle of nowhere.

Rather like the farang married to a Thai farmer in the middle of nowhere.

There are many here and apparently quite happy.

I doubt the Thai girl in China would be.

In China you have no rights as a human being, people disappear, young women are kidnapped in North Vietnam and are sold & imprisoned as wives in China.

The same in any third world authoritarian society.  Remember fishing boats owned by Thai fishermen ?

What a stupid law or was it made up on the day.so in theory if I marry a Thai woman and we are going back to my country to work together I would be breaking the law.i thought it would be a good thing that they got a chance of very well paid job and sending money back to this country.

30,000 baht is not really alot in China.  It is only about 6000 rmb. Average wage for unskilled labor is between 3 to 4000 rmb.. So is feasible the salary is real with tips. Also massage girls get a base salary and then get extra per customer..

What they probably didn't tell the thai women is that is normal for the men to get a hand job as part of the massage without having to pay for the happy ending.

I do not see how the men recruiting broke any laws unless the labor board considers recruiting in itself a violation.

There’s you answer 100% correct! The S. Korea gig got shutdown

with a lot of overstayers being sent back.

Theyve started checks on young females traveling alone for first time knowing it was for working in S. Korea. The authorities stop

them from leaving LOS.

Someon must have arrangements with a special channel because it’s not easy to get a visa for China going the normal route.

Good luck to him finding "pretty and young" Thai women, nowadays, i don't see all that many anymore, you can go in and out several bars before you see a looker,, and if you did, wouldn't really care for her attitude...

Where are you looking? In Texas?

I am not so sure that they all know what will happen. It seems many Thais, and not only Thais, still think that in some other countries they can make a fortune for easy work.
