Popular Post rooster59
Video: Bike racer pays with his life in motorcycle accident Image: Thai Rath Thai TV showed a video of two men racing motorcycles in the area of Amata City in Sri Racha, Chonburi yesterday. The bikes became entangled near an intersection before one of the riders slid off under the wheels of a six wheel truck. His head was crushed and he was killed instantly. He was just 23. Pictures on the news story indicated he was a fork lift operator. The other rider came off in a different direction and was only slightly hurt. Popular Post richard_smith237
Its an awful tragic thing.... you can clearly see the distress his friend is in (through the blurred image).... Yes, its fortunate no innocents were also injured... and yes, it was their own fault, and yes, some will say there is a level of 'darwinism' involved... But its tragic nonetheless, a young life has been lost, its tragic that this continues to happen in Thailand when there 'could' be measures in place to prevent such tragedies. Hopefully these images and videos can be used to teach other kids the potentially deadly ramifications of their youthful exuberance. 11

Although I have looked, I haven't seen common sense mentioned anywhere in the 20 year roadmap! Popular Post edwinchester
Everyday students, always male, are racing home from the local college near us. Police are there to make sure traffic flows smoothly out of and past the college exit but sadly their interest in road safety ends about 50 metres either side of it. It will never change. 5

I'm sure this would work in western countries. However, this is Thailand and they have their own way of thinking, which we farangs will never understand, no matter how long we have stayed here. 7

Could be a minivan driver at his age. 25 being the minimum age to do a driving license for dangerous goods transport.

Looks as though the one who died had already lost control of the situation to me when he hit the guy in the white t-shirt. Would have to see what happened earlier in the curve though to be sure but it looks like he was going way too fast, faster than his friend, and trying to sit the bike back up before he hit him from behind. They were both idiots for racing and unfortunately one paid the ultimate price and the other will have to live with the consequences for the rest of his life. One of the consequences of modifying these bikes to go as fast as possible, in a straight line, is that they become less able to corner as fast. Skinny cheap tyres pumped up to beyond safe psi mean much less grip and I'd wager that was a major contributor to the dead guy losing control.
Popular Post fakename
Cant say a helmet would have helped. This should be shown in all the schools, maybe It would save one life. terminatorchiangmai
This government should be deeply ashamed of itself that after 5 years of military junta not even the road safety improved 1%.
AhFarangJa
I feel for the truck driver also. Although he did nothing wrong he may be traumatised by the accident. R.I.P. to the young man, just another number on the ever increasing toll.

Popular Post Ulic
Where they racing each other or fighting? I looks to me as if they were leaning into each other. Maybe just clowning around, trying to block each other. Not really sure. RIP. I hope the other lad learns something and that the truck driver gets over the traumatic experience he has had to endure.

Perhaps Buddhism is partly to blame, inasmuch as these kids probably think that this life is not of paramount importance since they will always have another one and possibly a better one, if they are lucky. Life in Thailand certainly does not appear to have the same value as in many other countries. 2
