Livestock Development officials and Army troops raided three unlicensed pig slaughterhouses in Nakhon Pathom and arrested their owners early on Tuesday.

Sorawit Thaneeto, director general of the Livestock Development Department, said the 2.30am raids were carried out in Tambon Thakham in Nakhon Pathom’s Samphran district following complaints from local residents.

The residents complained that the slaughterhouses were unhygienic and had bad smells that troubled the people living nearby.

Sorawit said the livestock development officials sought help from the Nakhon Pathom-based Army to make the arrests.

The authorities found that the pigs slaughtered at the site had no proof of origins and so could pose a danger to consumers.

The pork appeared to be contaminated with unlawful chemicals to boost the colour of the red meat.

The authorities seized 1,800 kilograms of pork from the three slaughterhouses, Sorawit added.

Here comes CP... they were the biggest pusher for changing the law so that small scale slaughter and small farmers basically will get eradicated...
CP already control much of the market by owning Macro (where most small food shops get their meat from) and 7-11 but, CP will not stop until they control it all!!!

I live in Nakhon Pathom, not in Samphran but a few kilometres away in A.Muang...

the area aptly named "Thahan Bok" as the word thahan has the meaning of army... the army camp is located only about 2 kilometers away.

near my home is a small private slaughter house, located in a side Soi, it employs about 10 staff who do everything from the euthanising, bleeding out, scalding, beheading, eviscerating, quartering and jointing.

The most unhygienic place you can imagine, it's an old dilapidated back street concrete building,

euthanasia is done by stunning the pigs with a large heavy iron bar smashed over the pigs head,

it's throat is cut to bleed-out & the blood kept for other products.. the process then follows as above: scalding/scraping, beheading, eviscerating, quartering, jointing.

The joints are then thrown into the back of an open Toyota pick-up with a sprinkling of ice and taken to the local talat/market to be sold!

I'm sure this place does not follow any laws as regards to euthanasia or hygiene!!
