PHUKET: The prevalence of drugs in Phuket is spreading and falling street prices are adding fuel to the fire, Phuket Vice Governor Supoj Rotreuang Na Nongkhai told a meeting of the provincial counter-drugs network this week.

Vice Governor Supoj expressed his concern as he presided over a meeting of results and analysis of counter-drugs efforts in Phuket at Phuket Provincial Hall yesterday (Nov 20).

“The presence of drugs in Phuket is increasing, especially with ya bah (methamphetamine) and ya ice (crystal meth),” Vice Governor Supoj said.

Meth prices fall when manufacturing is optimized and feed stock is cheap contributing to a saturated market. To optimize law enforcement take tom and ganja off the table, nobody is dying or committing capital crimes from these substances, they just tie up resources. Treat meth addiction as a disease, not an infraction of the law. There's enough meth addicts incarcerated  (who are presently clean now) to take through every school in the country and give their story of the adverse effects of meth addiction to the susceptible youth. When they try to force treatment on people who don't want it (as in the cases of people testing positive at check points) they can spoil any chance of future rehabilitation. Addicts need to come to their own conclusion that they need to stop for rehab to be effective. The present means of trying to stop the youth in Thailand from taking dangerous drugs is not going to work, it's been tried in many countries a lot more advanced than Thailand. Somebody better wake up here, the lack of meaningful opportunities for the youth combined with cheap hard drugs could cause whole generations of people to be incapable of living a normal life and contributing to Thai society.

Thailand had better get out in front of this problem, with more trained staff and rehab options for addicts ,and less time and money showboating and patting each other on the back, over drug busts.

Just talked to the wife who's down in the south visiting her extended family. She said her cousin's daughter (who is 12) said that her and her friends have been approached by people wanting them to sell yaba pills in their school. The price? 50 baht. I would suggest to all out there that have kids in school to have a real heart to heart (if you haven't already), these a**holes are getting real serious about getting people wired to this shit. Hell, every kid in the school probably has 50 baht in their pocket. Just real f***ing sad.

Thai elitists (bankers and mafias) need to ease up on their greed and help alleviate the poverty that is responsible for the meaningless existence of these people who cannot afford basic necessities ...

I have a 12 year old in school here and he tells me he is aware of the people selling drugs in the school. I really hope he listened to the advice I gave him.

I am also aware of some of the locals who are low level dealers, the problem is very real and growing.

Singapore doesn't have meth addicts or any other junkies....maybe that has to do with the death punishment?

There is a death penalty here but has not been carried out for a long time & if you confess you may still receive death but will be reduced to life. Singapore seems to have no qualms about carrying out the death penalty although I am sure they still have addicts & dealers

I've seen A-Lot of drug users and the AVG. one stops at about age 40 and has been FORCED into REHAB 2 or 3 times..and they wake up in middle age and it's to Late..Toooo LLLaattee for them.....can't be helped....All of YOU, are Foolish,,or do gooding Dreamers Dreamers....One Hit of CRACK and a decent girl, chruch Going or Cheerleader will strip Na_ _ _..  AND THAT'S THE TRUTH !!!!!!

Put everybody to sleep with the best sedative: cheap weed !

Then less and less meth in the streets !
