Skilled foreign workers needed in Thailand

 

 

BANGKOK, 23rd November 2018 (NNT)-A Thai academic says the nation needs to attract skilled foreign workers to work in the country, especially in the industrial technology sector, to overcome a shortage of skilled-workers. 

In a seminar held by the Institute for Population and Social Research of Mahidol University, a university researcher, Ms. Sureeporn Phanpueng , revealed that Thailand needs around 2.3 million more skilled employees to work in innovative and technological industries, robotics, and the health and food industries. 

The event was attended by academics and those from related fields. Ms. Sureeporn proposed that the government solve the problem by offering work visas to skilled foreign workers who take up positions in Thailand and by creating an attractive living environment for them. 

She also wants the government to promote the transfer of technological know-how between foreign experts and Thai workers, as well as international education in Thailand.

It's only taken till the end of 2018 to realise this? I could have told them that 30 yrs ago!

I'm retired, and would be quite happy to teach specific subjects such as chemistry and statistics part-time for a modest wage. However, the amount of paperwork I would have to complete and maintain means - forget it.

What she wants to say is that they wish to replicate the China method, stealing and forcing tech transfer and to then kick the nasty farang out as quickly as possible. 

The salary level would be 200-300 / month for my skills there, I think MAX. In the 'west' I earn well north of 1 million. Why would I move to Thailand? Sun, beaches, cheap life? Easier to work on NON-IMM-O online, and travel frequently back to my home country to meet the customers.

Same with almost every profession. Asians, and especially Chinese and their derivative countries like Thailand and most of Southeast Asia, don't pay. Their model is that only the owners (who are generally related or extremely close) get the lion's share and let the workers get as little as they can get away with paying them.

Great....please, as soon as you get some, I need a welder, who can weld, a electrician who can wire a house properly, a roofer who can keep the rain out, a road construction crew who will put enough pavement down to keep the road usable for more then one year, skilled commercial public transport drivers who can get me safely everywhere, not to mention a good captain who can keep my family from China safer, (if I had a family from China), what about a skilled police force who might keep me feeling secure, in this beloved country.........

There are a lot of Skilled Foreign Worker i Thailand like my self, i work for a Computer Company since 8 Years in Bangkok. I Sure there would be a lot more, also maybe some Retired Farangs live in Thailand which would like do give some of there Knowhow to others Farangs or Thai- People, but there is a very BIG hurdle, the amount of Paperwork what you have to bring for a Workpermit is just idiotic and you have to make it every Year again even though it everything already in the Computer.
If Thailand wand to change something the have to make it more Attractive to Foreingners otherwise i not belief this will change much
The same Problem with the normal Visa's at least once a Year the Visa Rules Change and most of the time not for the good of the Tourists, in every Country around Thailand the make it more easy nearly every Year, but Thailand once more oversleeps it and ask then again why all the Tourists go to all other Country's around Thailand and not to Thailand

its Time to Wake Up Thai's or the Countrys around you overtake Thailand ......

 

 

 

In Thailand, the term 'academic' is something of a moving feast. It can mean more-or-less whatever you want it to mean.

 

I maintain that you can get a pretty good idea of the state of a population's intellectual, emotional and mental health by watching what they put on TV, including how the audiences react to it..

 

Thai TV is not a thing of beauty.

I would love to work here, only being told what to do by an unqualified idiot that will,always be right puts me right off the idea.

Having taught many Engineering Apprentices both in Industry, and Vocational Institutes over many years, the two things that are required to train them well, are people with high degrees of skills, and man management skills.

Thailand has neither

Who will train the Thai trainers? 

What they are really saying is the "foreign workers" should incorporate a company and hire four Thais for the WP and never set foot in Thailand. Just send the $.

So, the temples hold no attraction for you?

Skilled Thai people is a bit of a moot point as many simply can't be arsed to work or be serious (dirty word) and the number that are home grown that actually pass muster for many things is woefully short of what's needed. Hopefully, it will get to a point where they relax working rules for all due to the entitled apathy of their own population as they drown in their arrogance and belief in their superiority complex that they can just sit around doing sweet FA and still be OK.

I can suspect they will look first to their Chinese cousins for these skilled workers. I've already noticed quite an increase in the numbers of Chinese around the business districts when I attend meetings and the like.

Seriously? Name me one country that simply 'relaxed working rules for all' and thus allowed just about any man and his dog to come in, set up shop and run the show?

 

I consider if one actually has a job here that affords one enough time to sit around watching the local office staff sitting around, then maybe the crux of the problem really doesn't lie with the local worker.

Loosen the requirements for starting a business here, don’t make it so difficult and mind numbing to get a proper visa where ever immigration office and embassy has a different set of rules, stop protecting Thai jobs. Then you’ll have all the skilled foreign labor you’ll ever want and it will drive the economy in various ways.

 

You can’t have it both ways. Let foreigners in to lift you up or get left behind as the world (your neighbors) evolves.

 

But we all know that’s not going to happen, just as they won’t fix their education system so they can be the skilled labor, so I’ll just sit back and enjoy watching them sink, fail, and crumble. They deserve it.

Not sure if you’re trolling, but many countries don’t have restricted jobs for locals. That’s generally an Asian thing that goes side by side with xenophobia. 

 

First they need to start paying decent salaries and make it fair.
