Brands wise - whatever is available - pretty much all of a muchness. Quite like the Veloil in a green bottle - smells nice, like chewing gum. Quite like the Shell - comes in a metal container i can re-use for other stuff. How about that for tech analysis? 1
canthai55 Posted November 25, 2018 Posted November 25, 2018 Buy full Syn. Much less smoke. Much greater protection. Hard nowadays to read plugs with the demise of lead. Buy an illuminated magnifier and read the ceramic deep in the plug body. There you will find the first signs of piston crown deposits from temps going above the melting point of aluminum. A temp gauge like snowmobiles used to use is also handy, but tuning expertise very welcome. 1
papa al Posted November 29, 2018 Author Posted November 29, 2018 TG: past 2 years been using the Shell in the black metal can, then various brand x at B100+/l. In the RX-Z. 'Merca can access ester based Amsoil and mix it 100:1. papa's main thing is to minimise exhaust spoogement. Cleaning that out of the exhaust system is very ... not easy. papa does not want to deal with it. ...not fond of smoke either. Recently bought a liter of Motul 521 a B450/l. [unclear what the base oil type is; manufactures are secretive as to that] [papa's guess is Type 3 and ester combo] Mixing at 50:1 Will prolly go to ~75:1 Have seen some ester based stuff here at B1200-1500; yikes. 1
Damrongsak Posted November 30, 2018 Posted November 30, 2018 My older brother used to run Golden Specto oil in his Yamaha 250 MX bike back in the day. My younger brother used castor based oil in his Montesa 125. It smelled good. Might have been Blendzall.
Damrongsak Posted November 30, 2018 Posted November 30, 2018 Yes, it was Blendzall. They still sell castor oil for racing. Good stuff.
thaiguzzi Posted November 30, 2018 Posted November 30, 2018 My weekly perusal of B&S. Never seen one before. A Suzuki 150cc Gamma. Very nice new Lucky Strike paintwork, looks fabulous. 60k TB.
Popular Post ballpoint Posted November 30, 2018 Popular Post Posted November 30, 2018 My first bike in Thailand, in the early 90's, was a 2T. One of these fellas: I used to use whatever oil was available in town, mainly Castrol and the afore mentioned cans of Shell. It was a whole lot of fun, but was getting neglected after a while as I bought a bunch of road bikes over the years (and got older, and older, dammit, still being in my early 20's when I bought it). I ended up selling it to a guy in my wife's village, and still see it running around when I go up there. Virtually indestructible. One time it wouldn't start after not being ridden for a while, so I started stripping it down and found a family of mice, complete with straw bedding, in the carburettor air intake. Pulled them out, wiped the inside with an old rag, put it all back together and away she went. 3
