lopburi3 Posted November 28, 2018 Share Posted November 28, 2018 Indeed home cleaning of filters should be done every few weeks as it not only slows airflow it pulls unfiltered air around filter and directly into the cooling fins. The fins should get a professional degunk power cleaning every 6 month to a year. Some models seem to attract dirt like a magnet. The cost will likely be repaid by lower electric costs and a better/cleaner home. Gas is not likely to be required - I would have doubts about workers that claim otherwise. Yes if it cools ok and there is no icing occurring best to tell them not to mess with the gas, some unscrupulous types will actually "accidentally" cause a slow leak from one of the valves so they can be called back in a few weeks time. Also make sure they have (and use) a plastic sheet to cover the walls behind the inside and outside units the sheet should also double as a water capture chute while pressure washing..even so accidents happen !!!
