JK Rowling Clashes with Graham Norton and Billy Bragg Over 'Cancel Culture' Debate
I do admire Rowling, she certainly is outspoken and even as a Democrat I tend to agree with a lot of what she has to say. I think cancel culture is disgusting, and I think political correctness is truly horrific. So are the titles we are forced to use. Just say what you think and say what you feel, and if people get offended, so what? I also totally understand what Cleese is saying. As a comedian how can you be told that you have to limit your brand of comedy, because some might be offended. Comedy is meant to offend! It's completely ridiculous, it's completely demeaning, and can imagine it is quite demoralizing. Yikes. Just say no to the Karens of this world. -

Thai tax tangle: Expats warned of new rules on overseas income
Thanks for the reply, however as a Brit, I have no knowledge of these U.S. products. I think a review of all DTAs is needed on the international stage and standardisation where possible. Not going to happen though is it. -

Blaze at Trang car repair shop causes 10 million baht damage
Picture courtesy of KhaoSod By Bright Choomanee A severe fire broke out at a major car repair shop in Mueang district, Trang province, affecting over 30 vehicles being serviced. At least seven cars were destroyed, with damages exceeding 10 million baht, as firefighters worked for 90 minutes to control the blaze. Nattapong Niamsom, Mayor of Nataluang subdistrict, mobilised fire engines and coordinated with local administrative organisations for additional support. Over 10 fire engines from various departments, including the Trang Provincial Administrative Organisation, Trang Municipality, and local rescue units, were deployed to tackle the fire. Police Lieutenant Colonel Vetchayan Hiranyasuwan, an investigator from Mueang Trang Police Station, alongside Police Colonel Sanit Polpetch and an investigative team, examined the site. Preliminary investigations suggest the fire originated in the paint-baking room, which contained flammable materials like paint and thinner, leading to a rapid explosion and spread of the fire. However, the exact cause remains undetermined pending a detailed examination by the Trang provincial forensic team, reported KhaoSod. The fire resulted in the destruction of seven vehicles but with assistance from repair shop staff, local leaders, and residents, other cars were safely removed from the premises. The estimated damage is expected to be no less than 10 million baht (US$295,245). Source: The Thaiger -- 2025-02-04 -

ICE vs EV, the debate thread
NZ has a population of 5 million, and I'm happy to say has given the finger salute to EVs. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plug-in_electric_vehicles_in_New_Zealand By 2024 year-end, there were 119,036 registered plug-in electric vehicles in New Zealand, consisting of 83,806 battery-electric vehicles (BEV) and 35,230 plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEV), together making up 2.4% of the national fleet of 4.9 million vehicles.[6] In 2024, 11.2 percent of all new car registrations were plug-in electric vehicles.[1] Obviously most Norwegians are rich enough to buy EVs, unlike in NZ where cheap second hand cars are popular. NZ doesn't have the electric capacity to be having loads of EVs, and we drive long distances, which makes an EV pointless. Public charging points are a rarity, and I have not seen an EV plugged in at a service station- all filling up with good old fossil fuel.
