BANGKOK, 7th December 2018 (NNT) - The Prime Minister declared his stance against corruption to mark International Anti-Corruption Day on December 9th as he also gave awards to government agencies demonstrating organizational transparency. 

During the declaration ceremony, Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha said the government has campaigned for awareness of the scourge of corruption and has a zero tolerance policy against all forms of graft. It has therefore introduced inspection mechanisms to ensure project transparency and has pursued legal action against perpetrators. He also urged the Thai people to take part in the campaign to boost international credibility. 

The premier then gave awards to government agencies for good governance and transparency. Agencies ranked the highest include the Office of the Ombudsman, the Government Housing Bank, Mahidol Wittayanusorn School, the Office of the Permanent Secretary of Public Health, Uthai Thani Provincial Administration, and Bansomdejchaopraya Rajabhat University.

The scourge of corruption indeed! With 1% of the population owning 66% of the wealth he doesn't have to look too far to find out where the bed of corruption lies. Everyone else seems to know.

A good start point might be those who are refusing to declare their assets.

Where other people are concerned. Only elite members are allowed to feed freely from the trough, and that feeding frenzy seems set to continue.

Indeed Cadbury. And that figure of 66% elevates Thailand to number 1; although the government thinks the data collection criteria are flawed!!!! 

 

This Thai corruption stuff starts at the top and filters right down to the masses. It's a way of life here.

He has made this declaration previously. He seems to be repeating himself; a sure sign of an aging disorder.

Just over 2 years years ago he declared Thailand would be corruption free in 20 years so there is still 18 years to run on that. Proving that this latest razzmatazz is just a junta electioneering stunt.

In fact he's so determined to stamp out corruption that he refuses to have his own wealth audited for fear of people knowing where it came from, and he covers up army corruption pretty routinely.

 

The guy's a clown-show, pure and simple, he really shouldn't be taken seriously in anything.

 

There are 16 people in that posed picture. The rule of 80/20 suggests that 12 of them are actively corrupt as they stand there adopting a super-hero pose. I think I'm going to be sick, the hypocrisy of these louts is quite remarkable, as is the assumption that the 70 million-odd Thais are too stupid to know the difference.

 

Why would they think that?

Corruption in Thailand is an industry all by itself and vital to the country by providing grease for the wheels of many other industry sectors. It's valuable contribution should be recognised for what it is and turned into something productive.

I am surprised it is not in the school curriculum and that universities do not offer specialist graduation courses. Heaven knows there must be a wealth of knowledge and experience on the subject which could be shared by many of the higher echelon doyens of corruption. I refer particularly to military officers, politicians and "connected" friends and high ranking civil servants.

I listened to Chan-o-cha on TeeVee last night. He went on and on about stopping corruption. Going to form a committee to oversee the corruption committee and appoint a new corruption boss to make sure they all do good work. It's gonna be great! Starting Monday after brekkies. Or was it Tuesday?! Anyhow it's war on corruption; starting next week Thai style!! Anyone still awake! 

 

Mrs Owl was amazed that I could keep up reading the sub-titles.

This practice seems to have disappeared (or reduced?) from Pattaya Land Office.
