webfact Posted December 12, 2018 Posted December 12, 2018 Family accepts 20,000 baht for assault on school kid with learning disabilities Daily News said that the case of a ten year old child with learning disabilities who was attacked by a Thai language teacher has been settled with money. Along with others "Nong J" suffered bruising to his buttocks. He had not done his homework. The teacher is still at the school. Mother Amaporn Jansuwan went to Tha Chana police in Surat Thani province in Thailand's south after efforts to get justice with the school in Klong Pha sub-district had stalled. Yesterday the police, school director and teacher concerned met and a payment of 20,000 baht was agreed. In return the family will not press charges. The teacher will avoid a criminal conviction. He will be dealt with under the school's disciplinary procedures instead. Source: Daily News -- © Copyright Thai Visa News 2018-12-12 2

The police should be there to enforce the law, and charge the sad <deleted>, not negotiate a payment that he probably gets commission from, teacher keeps his job, and school director keeps his position, and does not need to declare his assets. A sad state of affairs all round, and a total disgrace. 8

But then again if the mother is happy to accept the "bribe" and not press charges the police are equally happy to walk away from the issue !
