Hi
I have just received my first work permit book. The school ha e insisted they keep it on site. They allow me to take it if I need it for a purpose like travelling but I thought it was mine and should be kept by me all the time...

What is normal practice?

Thanks.

Some schools do keep them for security reasons and some let the employee keep them.   It's not easy to replace them if they are lost or stolen.

I used to keep the WP with me but my employer had copies of it.  Granted, this was back in 2001 and I no longer work in the LOS.  Not sure just what the protocol is now.

Mine is always with me as I could be at any one of five offices or several dozen construction sites around Bangkok (it lives with my work PC and ID).

That said, I've never been asked for it other than by immigration when doing extensions.

I have a copy of my passport in my truck. I leave my Passport where it is safe at home.

Make a copy of your work permit and keep it handy. As well as your pass port.

In Saudi they kept my passport, though that is technically illegal. When in Rome and all that.

It would only be a problem if you were un able to access it when needed.

Isn't the departure process different for WP holders?  As in proof of tax payments can be required.  But, I never heard of anybody needing to show WP to leave, but don't know anyone, who had to prove taxes, either, but there are some notices.
