A beach in Ao Makham is almost back to normal following a big cleanup was launched to clear a black oil spill that had polluted 300 metres of shoreline yesterday.

The oil spill was located along a beach at Ao Makham in Wichit over the weekend. It is believed to be from a big ship.

Navy officers along with hotel staff in the area were helping to clean the beach and remove oil-stained sand.  Beachgoers and tourists were still enjoying the beach during the clean-up operations, despite a strong smell coming from the oil.

Even better if it is using Castrol R

OK, so more dolphins dying from natural causes

Before smart phones, social media, and instant message apps, authorities here could get away with releasing false information in the media, to temp tourists back.

People would believe "Beach back to normal" or similar, in the past, so the authorities continued lying to the public on a range of things.

They can't get away with that now.  They have to actually fix the issue, which we all know costs money, or upsets people, so the issue doesn't get fixed.  Thus, photos, messages, posts, videos etc, in real time, tell the real story to the world, which is now having the effect of people making informed decisions about whether to holiday on Phuket, or detour Phuket.
