Phuket taxi driver charged after man, 83, killed crossing busy road

PHUKET: A 31-year-old Phuket taxi driver has been charged with reckless driving causing death after he struck an 83-year-old man crossing Thepkrasattri Rd this morning (Dec 20).

 

The 83-year-old man, identified as Waranon Leesakul, from Songkhla, was crushed by a truck and trailer that was travelling behind the taxi.

 

Capt Eakkasak Kwanwan of the Thalang Police and rescue workers were called to the scene, on Thepkrasattri Rd northbound, near Paknam seafood restaurant in Moo 1, Tambon Thepkrasattri, at 6:10am.

Just another normal event here unfortunately, RIP old man I hope it was quick and painless

Sometimes the police react too fast and other times very slow when it comes to charging a perpetrator with a crime..

 

At 6.10am is still dark, and 83yo attempts to hobble across a major road and may be almost invisible even with headlights on.. So the taxi driver has been charged with reckless driving causing death, but the truck n trailer driver, behind who then ran over the deceased does a runner and the police were unlikely to charge this driver if identified.. Why?? He left the scene of the accident without attempting to render any assistance and was involved.. Was the taxi driver speeding or was it just an accident waiting to happen? RIP to the deceased..
