Hi all, I am a UK citizen, aged 29 that is currently working in South Africa, last year in October I married my wife, Thai resident. We are currently staying to gether in SA until my current contract finishes.

I want us to go and live in Thailand. However if you look around at all of the relevant websites they all give you different versions of the same information.

???

What I need to know:

1. Can you get one year extensions on Non Immigrant Type O visas?

2. How much cash do you need to transfer into a Thai bank account to qualify?

3. If at some point I was offered a job in Thailand and I wished to accept would it be deifficult to get a work permit because of my then current permit status?

I do hope and am quite sure that one of you has been in the same boast as me, and feel confident that someone can lay my concerns to rest.

Any other useful information would be kindly received!!! :)

I assume your wife is a Thai citizen.  In that case you qualify for a class O visa but not for an extension.  If you support her and can show funds that are from outside Thailand now in a Thai bank in the amount of 200-250k and convince them you have funds coming from outside Thailand on a regular basis that you will keep up the support requirement, and that you really live together, and she says the same thing, and you have photos together here in Thailand at your shared home; then they will likely approve a visa extension.  Not really hard but it is subject to review.  This visa would not cause you a problem with later work - believe you could get work permit on this visa and you could always change.

Hmm, thanks for the info, let me set you another quey. For in formation purposes yes my wife is a Thai national.

What if I am looking at having my wife support me through income generated by a business in her name? And not having regular income from outside Thailand?
