Hi,

Looking for some help to resolve a problem with Internet connection and possibly proper configuration of my router.

I have a SMC7904 ADSL 4 port Router, 2 Toshiba laptops of which 1 has XP pro & the other XP home and a TOT Goldcyber account, the XP home computer connects no problem to the internet through opendns, the XP pro computer doesn’t connect well, it will connect to google.com home page, searches ok but when I click on a link wont connect me, also outlook express connects to gmail & downloads mail but wont download from yahoo. The strange thing is up until a few days ago everything on both computers was working fine. I also have an air card that connects ok with the XP pro computer, so I’m guessing it’s a router config issue but don’t understand why its suddenly stop working.

Many thanks

Marc

I would disable opendns and use the DNS servers from your internet provider and see will it make any difference. Also, it would help us to get a better picture if you go to both of your machines and type "ipconfig /all" on a DOS prompt and show us the results. Another thing you can do is let someone look at your router configuration, this can be done thru the internet with most routers, but you have to set it to allow internet config access and give out your router username and password to that person. Or, you can buy me couple glasses of Johnnie Black whiskeys so I'll go to your house and get it fixed :o, just kidding.

Internet & phone line was down for 5 days just after i posted about the problem and after many calls to the local TOT office in Phuket found out that many of the local communication cables had been burnt out due to an electrical fault, i'm back up and running today with both laptops on line with no problems through open DNS.
