Two bags were or are only on US flights, not to Europe! And yes, I dont get it why some allow 20kg, some allow 23kg, surely there should be some standard? Like Thai so far allowing 23kg but Thai Smile allowing 20kg? Arriving from overseas on seperate tickets, where am I supposed to put the 'extra' 3kg from Suvarnabhumi to domestic destinations?

Boy, UTIC and UTH001 (any relation...?) are mixing things up! TG was giving a 30kg. allowance for belly luggage, next month to fall to the (sadly) usual 20kg. Never heard ('on' Europe) of 23kg., does not even make sense in Lbs., 47, 48, arai?. Anyway, cutting in their own (veeery thin) flesh: as I just wrote, tourists bringing copied rubbish back home, Thais with presents for the family. How stupid do you get as an airline, 'punishing' customers(!) still prepared to pay an extremely high price for a poor service. Allow me, the solution is as simple as it is difficult: send the cohort of profiteering worthless 'chiefs' home, manage TG in a common sense, 'lean', way! Oops, that'd be with professionals then, with Farangs, with authority over Thai 'mandarins', the horror, cannot!!!

When I booked and paid for my TG ticked 2 months ago to fly to Europa this summer it clearly said 30 kg/pax.

Can they really change it is retrospect?

NB: Just checked the ticked. 30K, W class. No way they will get out of that.

LOL, missed something dear, they change ANYTHING they want, all airlines, with the odd exception of the price of your fare (well, mostly...), but for the rest, your flight, today, tomorrow(?), re-route, your seating, menu, your next connecting flight(s), whatever, they OWN you, pure and simple, and keep very quiet and friendly, or it can get a lot worse...

i am thinking the reduced fare will apply for bookings after 1st April, as there are many posts regarding booking made now are still showing 30 kgs.

Are you serious? 'Discount' airfares on TG? By the (internationally accepted) category, maybe (to reduce the creditted miles on your 'non-Thai' frequent flyer program, TG pretends to adhere to, hmm?), but not in PRICE for sure, ...nor the value of service! By the way, even with a truckload of miles on your 'non-Thai' card, never, ever, can you 'buy' an upgrade with your miles on TG, cannot, blah-blah, while there are several seats free in business at departure time! Na-ah, they'll be for some 'befriended' economy (Thai) traveller, no miles involved, too intricate to organise maybe. I have no experience with Uganda Air, but don't expect anything worse with them, just another thrid world country...

P.S.: 'Thai International, a member of Star Alliance', oh yeah, really, LOL!

THAI have reportedly been losing billions of baht in recent years.

The whole Thai / Airport / Customs organisation runs on corruption with employees milking the company. The company may be making a loss but the folks that work there are doing ok thanks. Amazing Thailand.

Say no more.

I just went on West East flights LHR - BKK - LHR for April 24th and the baggage allowance is 30 KG both ways.

If this is in fact an April Fool joke it's in pretty poor taste.

All flights booked before the 1st of April retain the original allowance, even if the flight is after the 1st of April.

The Thais never stop amazing me. Dropping the baggage weight on Thai Airways is their latest .Emirates and Qantas must be sitting back rubbing their hands with joy. What a great idea if something is getting more expensive give them less. Goodbye Thai Airlines Hello Emirates

smh ????

...than it already was before this BS... Hardly ever competitive on pricing with other airlines and now this. Thai business logic 101.

I did not book a flight.

I just looked at the price and baggage allowance which was definitely 30 KGs.

It is worth checking the class of ticket terms and conditions issued at time of purchase. Not always easy to check.

I just looked again for the 3rd April 2019 and again it's 30 KG.

It looks like someone is pulling someone else's plonker.

bookings booked after 1st April, so no one will know until then.

i fly on the 2nd, showing as 30 kgs, but it would not matter if it is reduced to 20kgs as i take little back with me.

It's a pity, Thai Airways is one of the best Airline for services on the market.

But, contrary to other products we don't have much choices to deal with,

there are lots and lots of Airlines we can chose from.

For group tours, Thai Airways is smart enough to impose new changes only after Songkran Festival.

I have been (trying) to be a LOYAL Customer of THAI Airways for many years, but their prices from BKK -SYD are consistently higher by around US$ 100.00 compared to other DIRECT flights - (Qantas/Emirates) - so I book with my Wallet and use them instead - or even use PAL.

...... and now, that they are lowering the baggage-weight-allowance - it will be another BLOW and unless their prices will become competitive again - I will NOT use them.

A national carrier destined to fail IMO until they implement a proper revamp from top to bottom.

A huge fleet, older planes, questionable staff attitude, freebies galore to 'special' people and prices that are ridiculous for their long haul service. 44,000THB to London was the last price I saw from them on SkyScanner, BA and Eva were low 30s. I haven't booked them for years and I don't know anyone else living here who does to and from the UK.

I don't think they would ever admit failure and bring in specialised help (like Emirates and many others have done in the past) because they wouldn't be Thai, and how can a non - Thai understand how to improve Thai Airways.

That should help - people to choose another airline ????

Should help with cutting fuel costs as they will have less passengers on-board ????

Airlines that allow 30kg and are not a government cartel will be happy with this latest idiocy! ????

No more Thai Air for me.

Surely it should be for those who book after April 1st, as those who have already booked in good faith for travel after that date will have been expecting 30kg. That’s grossly unfair (not that THAI would give a s***).

Surely if Thai Air sold the ticket with 30 kg baggage before Apr 1st they have to honour that contract.

To be fair, 30kg for Eco was very generous.  Had they reduced to the apparent industry standard of 23kg, their existing customer base would probably moan a bit, then shrug it off as inevitable.

I'm sure retired Air Marshall Pingpong knows what he's doing.  ????

Yes, and he has to consider all his family, friends, ex Generals, military and police officers and families who need free tickets.

Been flying Thai quite often again in the last year as their direct flights out of Bangkok were a good option for me, but it has to be said; their lounge serves 7-11 selection of food, their food on board is only second to shit. Most of their planes are old and their staff arrogant and lazy. With Emirates for example you get the best service, food and planes for less money. Thai needs to get some professionals on their board, not some politician or general thatbis appointed because he scored some brownie points!

Thai should send all their cabin staff to Singapore/Silk Air for training.

Anyone know if this is both domestic and international? Seems real short sighted. If it's international, looks like I'll be flying Emirates/Qantas home then...

Have to be Qantas mate after june Emirates finishing their daily syd--bkk flights.

"New rules said that for four categories of economy class (including L,W and V designations) passengers will now only be able to take 20 kilos free of charge."

That's pretty normal and it means the more expensive economy class (Y etc) will still be able to load 30kg.  Don't see what the fuss is all about.  Consistent with what airlines around the world are doing.  Try loading 30kg on any of the big US airlines!!  You'll be paying excess.

This is a savvy business move that should have been thought of long ago.

Big US Airlines do not fly Koh Samui to Brisbane, so your argument is null and void.  Singapore Air is also cheaper than Thai Air on that route. Plus 30 kg baggage.  ????

right.  no one forces anyone to fly thai, but people choose to. i have only ever been on one thai aircraft as part of a flight share with the airline i originally booked. it was short haul but the seats did not recline and bizarrely an announcement was made requesting passengers not to lie on the floor...?! i never have and never will choose thai. up to everyone.

About 10 years ago i used to fly Thai all the time. However since the government decided that Ex RT Airforce generals are the best bet to manage the airline, it has gone into a steady decline. It is time to sack all the upper echlon staff, hire an "on the ball" Western Business Manager. Otherwise, this airline will not b able to survive.

I have a novel idea. Hire a CEO and staff that knows how to run and airline.

Royal Thai Airforce= Aircraft.          Thai Airways= Aircraft.      RTA Ex General=Aircraft.   Makes sense for him to be the manager.  Simple innit ask the PM.

I just returned from Australia flying Thai and the return trip was very ordinary, on the way to Australia no Alcohol was served only if you asked , i ordered a Vegetarian Meal 8 weeks before i flew with Thai and that was not on the flight and the cabin crew were arrogant.

My Company just flew me to Singapore with Thai and also the cabin crew were not friendly and the food was very ordinary, but i did get my Vegetarian meal.

I will remain a member of the Royal Silk to accumulate my points and fly with Singapore Airlines in future , Now thats an airline who likes to keep its customers and Never Ever fly Thai Airways again!

I dumped Thai Air quite a while ago and now fly Singapore Air. An excellent airline in every way. But this is the  Singapore National story, no short cuts, everything as good as possible and goodness help anybody caught doing the wrong thing.

The mass hysteria begins. All based on incorrect information. And of course ignorance takes hold. People who do not fly very often weigh in with their  unfounded claims.  STOP.    YOU ARE WRONG.

The change in weight limits reflects the current market and still remains MORE GENEROUS  than TG low cost competitors.

Only the discounted fares are impacted. the deep discount basic fares like group discounts and advance excursion rate.  More specifically;

1) fare class  L/ V/ W: for Ticketing/ Travelling effective on / after 01 APR 19
2) fare class G:  for Ticketing/ Travelling effective on/ after 01 JUL 19

PAX who pay more will still have their best of industry complimentary baggage allowance.

Really? Which airlines on the Asian routes provide 30kg to discounted economy class tickets? name one full service airline. Name one LCC.

Oh, and you know this because? Seriously, do you think the airline  is making money on the ultra cheap tickets where  the pax  maximize their  baggage allowance?  If TG can get rid of some bottom feeders, good for the airline.

The calibre of idiot who would make an unsubstantiated claim with no knowledge of  current baggage allowances, airfares and services provided. How does TG's adjustment of the baggage allowance for a class of airfares which is causing  financial loss to the airline  bad? How exactly does  TG's baggage allowance make it uncompetitive and inferior when it still provides  one of the most generous baggage allowances in Asia Pacific?

Na,e the airlines who provide the   same fare classes which exceed the TG baggage allowance on the TG routes.  Compare baggage allowance and additional costs to Air Asia/ Thai Lion / NOK and it is  obvious that TG is the most generous.

This bashing of Thai Airways is infuriating as it comes from the infrequent flyers who are clueless as to the characteristics of airlines and airfares. The airlines do not make a profit on the deep discount airfares. This is why they  added surcharges for baggage.  If people don't like TG, pick another airline.

I have just flown Return Singapore/Silk Air  Koh Samui to Brisbane. The fare was well below Thai (and i would have had to fly to Bangkok first) Both ways i had 30 kg baggage Who is the idiot now.

Just imagine the number of decent houses being built if Thai banks could lend to Farang
