No, not a marriage of convenience.  But suppose you live in one region of Thailand (for personal reasons that are not connected with your wife), and your Thai wife is compelled (for the moment) to live in another region of Thailand because her business is located there.

Would you still be able to legally obtain a marriage visa?  Do marriages have to be based on you living together and banging each other 3 times a night?

Serious question (the first question, not the last!).

Simon, are you using your ex-missus (the one you don't like) to get a visa?

Heavens above, perish the thought!  I'd rather slit my wrists.  But marriage (again) is a viable option for my 3rd ex (who I've known for almost 20 years, lived together before in the UK, always great friends.  She has to stay in Phuket until she sells her hotel, but then she wants to move up to Issan to live with me (I'm moving up to the Mekong from Ranong next month).

Just considering all options ????

Not sure if it would be legal in Thailand for a marriage visa.  Obviously a home visit would not turn out well unless they gave notice.  Good Luck

New term/acronym I had not heard of from the web:   “living apart together” (abbreviated as LAT), according to the 2000 U.S. census, about three million couples in the United States do it.

Marriage is an alliance entered into by a man who can't sleep with the window shut, and a woman who can't sleep with the window open.

Husband and wife must co habitate. Defacto marriage.

One or both could routinely take short trips I would suppose.

Hence the pics on the bed and in front of wardrobes.

This is one of the reasons I expect fake marriages don't exist. Punters could never find a woman that likes them enough to enter into a fraudulent agreement for the little money it would provide.

Moreover, getting some flaky bargirl to do this yoy, something would go pear shaped, guaranteed.

I think the money a woman would want not to mention opening you to blackmail is prohibitive.

Maybe so, but I have been told that my wardrobes especially are to die for so if need be, getting me a surrogate wife shouldn't be too much of a hardship.

Anything is possible and the law does not matter because Thailand is a free country where people are reluctant to interfere in other people’s business.

There is an advertisement on this site for Thai Visa Retiree Services which proves that what I say is true.

I would say that if you want to, there are ways to do it.
