A security officer at a private university in Bangkok has been arrested for allegedly stealing Bt28,800 in cash from the desk of a Chinese lecturer.

Police said Asoke Singh, 39, had been arrested Monday night after officers checked footage from security cameras and saw him entering the office used by lecturers and then stealing cash from the drawer of the Chinese lecturer, who identified herself only as “Lin”.

Filing a complaint with police earlier that day, she said she discovered at 2pm on Saturday that the cash in the drawer had disappeared.

Security-camera footage showed Asoke entering the office at 9pm on Friday.

Asoke said he had entered the office after seeing a computer had been left turned on, which was when he spotted the cash and stole it, according to police.

Great if the people who need to protect you from theft are the thieves. ????

He's just emulating the government, including his mindlessness being a "security officer" and forgetting about the cctv...
