I am moving my base to Europe (if we get a bum deal) but many don't have that option.  We need closure  and the British "politicians" seem incapable of delivering anything at all.

 

I have been against a second referendum all along but if the politicians cannot find a deal that has some semblance of being a positive then it really has got to be taken away from them and for the people to decide.  I would hope for a general election but if this means voting back in the same shower of idiots then what would that achieve?

Quite right Vinny, I went with a breaking news announcement that said that May had written to Tusk requesting a one year extension.  Turns out it was him that suggested a longer extension of about a year with the option of ending it earlier.  Seems that the generous offer caught everyone by surprise.

If a long extension leaves us stuck in the EU we should be as difficult as possible. We could veto any increase in the budget, obstruct the putative EU army and block Mr Macron’s integrationist schemes.

 

 

 

 

Probably the most idiotic of all the sayings to come out of the last two years is "Brexit means Brexit" followed by "Leave means leave" and then we get  banana means banana, and pear means pear etc, which all adds up to Simplistic means simplistic. The underlying theme to this is highly offensive to Brexiteers in particular, and the British public in general. It is suggesting that we are all so stupid, uneducated, and ignorant that we are only capable of understanding and/or thinking in soundbites. A hard Brexit, for example, would actually involve unravelling 40 years of mutually agreed law and tariffs for a starter, that is complex.

    I'm surprised that the "We just leave, simples" contingent ever got out of primary school.

     This does not of course apply to many Brexiteers, here and elsewhere. I would expect them to be offended by people who addressed them in such a way, that they made it clear, that they didn't think Brexiteers had the brains to recognize when a problem was complex, or the intelligence to understand the problem when they did.

Agreed - The EU have already come back and politely pointed out that JRM is just a nobody with no mandate to represent the UK, and his veiled threats define him as the sad twisted toff he is. TM for all her faults, is at least capable of being civil.

It beggars belief that many working class brexiteers actually idolize this guy, for whom they are merely serfs.

As it happens, at the first meeting David Davis (Brexiteer) turned up totally unprepared, setting the expectation for all following meetings.

Of course I understand that there would be many many issues to overcome.
That was ex-pm cameron and all his oh so confident project fear mob..osbourne etc fault cos they took it for granted that remain would win.
He then bottled it..t may..s remoaner becomes pm...
and obviously the prep work under her was a shambles.
D Davis did not want to agree to the way the eu had set out the stall re negociations..but t may went along with it.
D Davis imo.brilliant guy being backstabbed by fellow cabinet members and remoaning uncivil devious servants

The divorce settlement is obviously complex. Nobody doubts that, even the struggling "primary school Brexiters."

 

However, it is equally stupid to approach a complex negotiation like this with the attitude "we will give the EU everything they want unless they make a better offer."  Isn't it obvious that is a stupid action? The UK needed to be willing to make the hard choice going in, and accept the sacrifice involved in a no deal Brexit if they expected any kind of realistic concession from the EU. If nobody in the UK is willing to just walk away and leave without a deal, why would the EU negotiate at all?

 

The issue is not that the problem was complex (which it is), but that the negotiation tactic was fatally flawed from the very beginning.  If the UK wants to exit, they need to be willing to make the hard choice and walk away. The fact that they won't means they will never leave, because without the willingness to "no deal Brexit", any deal offered will necessarily be worse than staying in.

 

The EU has to at least believe the UK will cut off thier nose to spite their face, even if it is just a bluff. Passing a bill saying we won't accept a "no deal Brexit" is just plain stupid. Those are the people I am surprised made it through primary school.

I'm not going to repost the May Corbyn kissing cartoon,  it is ugly and crude. It goes way beyond a cartoonists legitimate right to be provocative and descends into brainless viciousness. This isn't actually funny, it just leaves a foul taste in your mouth. I expect no more from the Torygraph, but to be balanced in my criticism, Steve Bell of the Guardian often does exactly the same. These guys do not deserve the oxygen of publicity. I expect a cartoonist to be provocative - yes - but subtle and amusing also.

 

One of the finest ironies I have noted in a long time is the cartoonist's use of Pseudo Russian text in the words Brexit. From a Torygraph point of view it is all part of depicting Corbyn as an old fashioned Socialist. The irony is that it is the Brexiteers who have done everything they possibly can to help achieve Putin's dream of weakening Europe (Where did Banks £8m come from I wonder). For all their Nationalist grandstanding Brexiteers are still essentially acting as Putin's Poodles.
