An urgent appeal has been launched to fly home a "very ill" Scottish woman who has been left stranded in Thailand.

Rebekah Fulton, 25, is currently in a hospital in Phuket where she is fighting a serious infection.

Her dad, James, is with Rebekah in the country and has started an online fundraiser with a target of £25,000 to get "his little girl home".

Nearly £4,000 has been donated from family, friends and well-wishers from across the world, the Daily Record reports

On the fundraising page, dad James said: "Rebekah is in hospital in Phuket with a serious infection and is very ill.

I'm sorry the lady is ill but I find it hard to have any sympathy for those who travel with no travel/health care package.

Not meaning to be vindictive..but is the girl yet another tourist with no travel/health care insurance??
If so..it will not help the case of expats living here re possible mandatory requirement of having h/care insurance as part of " extension " of stay whether marriage or retirement

ok i dont know if she has insurance or not, but for a young person health/travel insurance is very cheap, even when i was 65, (long time ago he he) my insurance was £30 for one month (1500 baht at the time,) so there is no excuse at all with flights costing £450/500, plus spends plus accommodation. its cheap price to pay. my mate came to see me, his ins not much (him 68), caught denghi fever, bill for 2 days, 40,00 baht, but got it back within one week on return to the uk

Would be nice to know what sort of infection costs £25,000.if she's too ill to travel then the treatment will have to be done here.ive had pneumonia lung infection out here that would of killed me and it didn't cost nothing like that and I was treated in bkk phuket hospital.a good course of anti biotics  usually does the trick.

taking out the wrong insurance is about as daft as not having any insurance.medical insurance for a person of her age would of been under £200.

Looking at her IG page it seems she has been in Thailand a long time and particularly on Phi hi Island. Very sorry but shes irresponsible to not have travel insurance.

No mention of just what the serious infection is.  I hope the bonnie lassie gets better soon.

Rebekah seems to enjoy displaying her torso.

She is very skinny, her body has not much spare to fight against any disease.

But I agree, the travel agencies and airline staff at the check ins should be briefed to ask if a travel insurance is present.

They do it for Visas when there is no return ticket why not for health insurances?

Yes, and father, family and friends can only raise £4,000?

If it’s an infection, a Thai hospital has antibiotics too.

Because they're young and know everything.

you seem to be fixated spamming posting trolling this stuff day after day on thread after thread, what exactly is your agenda, may I suggest you create your own thread and see if anyone actually wants to discuss it

do you even live in Thailand ?

I suspect not

This girl is a tourist - she is not an expat - she was not living here - she was on holiday

Better to use other peoples money, if they're stupid enough to hand it over.

If you know you are going to die and have millions of baht, why not help the less fortunate?  Help me with maybe only one million baht, not much to you....but it will help me.

Can anyone give me a million baht???

I will promise you will go Heaven, or your money back!!!!

If she has a 'serious infection' then that will need treatment before flying back. Therefore, £25k isn't needed imo.

Wrong..I live in the Chaiyaphum Province..and I repeat..press coverage like this WILL encourage the Thai Govt to introduce MANDATORY HEALTH CARE INSURANCE for expats who live here on retirement or marriage extensions.
We will all know soon enough before the end of this year.

The moment when a wannabe social media "influencer" works out that clicks from fans don't always amount to dollars in the bank.

Zero sympathy for travelling without insurance. This doesn't even appear to be one of those instances where she has had her insurance voided through some technicality.
