Hi 

I'm heading to Thailand later in the year for 7 weeks is there any problem with landing on 30day entry visa from Australia then just going to immigration and get extension before 30days lapses.

There should not be any problem doing what you wrote about. 

The only problem you might have is if the airline requires a ticket out of the country within 30 days of arrival to board your flight. A low cost one way ticket to any nearby country would take care of the problem.

or  a round trip ticket using  the 30 day extension  in  planning the itinerary,correct
