Foreigners/ Thai owner fined for not reporting change of address within 24 hours

Naew Na reported that a Thai property owner and two Chinese nationals were all fined for contravening regulations that state foreigners' whereabouts must be reported within 24 hours when they have changed addresses.

Naew Na used a vague term to refer to "property" so it was impossible to say if this was a case of a private dwelling or hotel being used.

The Thai was named as Aphisit Minghiran while the Chinese were not named.

The fines were paid at the Chanthaburi Immigration Operation Center under the command of Pol Col Chalermchon Laemthong.

Naew Na said that articles 37 and 38 of the immigration code had been violated.

Removed an off-topic post and the replies to it.

The news article in the OP is not about the so-called 90-day report, ie it is not about the notification of staying in the Kingdom longer than 90 days.

Do not question Thai authoritaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah.

God, they really are a bunch of Cartmans, aren't they?

The logical endpoint of all this is us all  wearing gimp masks with shock collars and tracking ankle bracelets.  Not that the current regime has the brains to successfully pull it off, but I swear sometimes, if they could, they would.

I'm referring to the government, not the Thai people as a whole, who would just really--deep down--rather not have to think about us or interact with us too much.

All countries require or use address registration,  the USA  Europe, The UK, Australia. The hurdles are enormous. Same but different. Here, illegal landlords, play the system, using anti social Air BnB and unlicensed untaxed unregulated fire risk dumps so the authorities are gradually, very gradually, regulating the system. There are two sides to every story. We had to ban some R#####ns because they treated our quiet community as though it was their porn, noisy, hip fantasy for two weeks..After two warnings, their electric keys were cancelled, water and electricity turned off. I have not changed my address for years but I travel around Thailand and come ago to and from countries but this issue has never arisen for me. If anybody has this problem they are breaking protocol and not wetting the right beaks.

No but the office is always open... ignorance is no defense, neither is a web-site that doesn't work.

I 100% Agree, Ignorance is no defense for enforcing regulations with the sole purpose of extracting more money out of foreigners and further damaging the image of this once Magnificent place.

1 - We already register our address by using the TM6 and the 90days reporting.

2 - Why the foreigners are fined when the fault lies with the unlicensed operators?

3 - What the Russians got to do with this topic?? They make trouble, you call the police, end of story.

The only thing this kind of news does is further put off potential visitors to this Beautiful place.

Can anyone explain to me why the Govt are so paranoid about foreigners? What are they afraid of? How long before they require us all to have microchips implanted? When I do the 90 day report or TM 30 I already feel like I am reporting to my parole officer.
