Bar Closing Times

Featured Replies

Can anybody update me as to what is happening with the bar closing times in the Big Mango. I hear that here in Chiang Mai the Nick Nick are still turning up on Loi Kroh Road at midnight and forcing the bars to close - not that I personally go there that often but it does affect our business (The Bear's Den) if tourists are being chased away. If this is nationwide I daresay there is little we can do but it just demonstrates the hypocricy once again as our place is just 1 1/2 Km from a place dangerously on the edge of the Super Highway where the college kids flock every night in their droves, park haphazerly anywhere as close as they can (typical) and fall out at 2 - 2.30am pucking all over the place and they get away with it!

TIT I suppose...

Talk about shoot yourself through the knee so the ricochet passes through your brain....

Come on you tourists one and all!!!

it seems the established bars and dives have to close at 2 but there is a clutch of new dives (owned strangely by senior police ) that have started up .

they are more eateries with a little beer and gals on the side .

cant recall the names of them but someone here will know .....

aye.. apparently the grace coffee shop is now reopened and serving beer till the early hours again aswell..

What's this "pucking" a euphemism for? Procreation or being sick?

Hi Bear, also have a look at the Chiang Mai local forum on this site, a bit down the list of forums. Closing times in Chiang Mai specifically came up a week or so ago, but we didn't debate the effect early closing times have on businesses that are NOT normally open very late! (Through decreasing overall tourist numbers, like you mention)

Had a look at your website and your pub/restaurant. Looks great! Well, the pub/restaurant anyway, your website looks terrible especially on my 800x600 screen. :-) And what is that Java-scrolling clock thingy doing there! Prices seemed very reasonable too, I will definitely try it sometime soon. You actually show sports on TV *with* sound as well for big events? Formula 1 in particular? And the upcoming Euro 2004 football?

Cheers,

Chanchao

Didn't quite know how to spell that - yes being (tom & dick), sick...

We don't close early, quite the contrary our published closing time is 2.00am but we used to get a few punters early evening and then again around 11-12 with their catch of the night looking for a quiet nightcap and nosebag before they went off to do the business. They have all but disappeared because of the clamp down effects of Loi Kroh Road on tourists.

Will see what I can do with the resolution problem but the web sitte is my first effort at this kind of thing - you don't like the Java clock?

Yes, all Sports are shown on the big screen with sound including F1. IIf you get this response in time pop in tonight for the European Grand Prix. We are planning to show all Euro 2004 matches and have posted a schedule of matches and times on our notice board. We are also running a 'Predictor' league if you are interested in having a little flutter on the results and final winner...

Well, I'm all for keeping things functional and resisting the urge to put all kinds of effects in there 'just because you can'. Same would be some websites that use this annoying 'trail' that follows your mouse pointer across the screen, or all kinds of scrolling texts and moving animations that don't serve a purpose.. But I'm nitpicking. The menu though only shows in a tiny area on the screen on smaller monitors though. (I use 800x600 at home).

I actually did visit your place and I have to say it looks incredibly impressive. Probably THE nicest looking bar/restaurant that's aimed at a foreign clientele.. (Keeping in mind of course that most of those are of the single-shophouse variety, or something like Mad Dog bar at best..) But still, I was very impressed, also the river-front terrace is just very nice. I will definitely suggest it to friends as a good place to go for a beer and watch the footie.

Cheers,

Chanchao
