Does anyone have any recent experience of going out and coming back in at Mae Sai with a short overstay? I was on a one-year extension of a non-imm ‘ O’ based on marriage and due to my own stupidity, forgot it was due for renewal this month. My options are to fly to KL from CNX and back or go for a border crossing at Mae Sai. The overstay will be 5 or 6 days, depending on whether I do it today or tomorrow. The aim is to re-enter on a 30-day visa exemption stamp, convert to non-imm O, then extend again.

(As far as I’m aware, leaving the country is my only option now: there’s no way to clear the overstay and get a short extension without leaving is there?)

They will (should) still allow you to apply for a 1 year extension as long as you pay the overstay fee.

If you can’t meet the requirements for a 1 year extension you could go for a 60 day extension and apply for the 1 year at the end of 60 days.

Thank you very much. You mean I can apply for a 60-day extension even though I've just finished a 1-year extension?

I do qualify for the one-year extension but it might be easier to go to immigration this morning and get a 60-day extension first if that's possible, to give me time to sort out my bank book and letter.

(Or, would they maybe let me apply for a 30-day extension, without having to take my family down there with me?)

Yes they would do one unless you have gotten one before since you entered the country using the the visa that allowed the entry you have been extending.

IMO it would be best to hurry up this morning and get things together to apply for your one year extension today.

You cannot apply for a 30 day extension.

Thank you. I'm getting things prepared for a 1-year extension. I'm very grateful to you and elviajero for saving me an unnecessary trip to KL or Mae Sai this morning.

I misjudged my date and overstayed 8 days when doing my retirement extension 2 years ago. I went to CW Immigration submitted my paperwork for retirement extension. Guy said you have 8 day overstay please pay 4,000 baht and fee for your retirement extension. That was it no problems.
