PHUKET: Visitors at Patong Beach yesterday morning were treated to a welcome surprise as Royal Australian Navy (RAN) landing craft, including two amphibious vehicles, made their way onto the beach. The mission was to deliver a huge store of much needed life-saving equipment to Patong’s lifeguards.

The exercise was part of the Indo-Pacific Endeavour 2019 (IDE) deployment which saw the RAN flagship HMAS Canberra, which at 27,000 tonnes is the largest ship in the RAN fleet, and the HMAS Newcastle make port in Phuket.

The event yesterday, Phuket Surf Life Saving Day 30 April 2019, saw the Australian Government donate 1,500 buoyancy vests (life jackets), 170 children’s size rash shirts, 20 rescue boards, 10 children-size “nipper” surf boards, six rescue tubes and a resuscitation mannikin.

....and the supplies given to the life guards will be privately up for sale tomorrow just like donated beach umbrellas are given to many of the beach chair vendors in Pattaya ( the new ones have a way of disappearing

The question has to be asked.

Do the RAN staff have work permits.?

Foreigners can't just storm onto a beach and start handing out promo gifts.

Where's Big Joke when you need him!

having Joint Exercise annotation in one's Passport does have it's priviledges.

The Exemptions get even better when Duty free beer is included

1 beer per man, per day, perhaps.

Patong has lifeguards??? Really???

Meanwhile, what exactly is a resuscitation mannequin?  And does it have anything to do with the government's recent pledge to crack down on sex trafficking?

the only real restriction. is that one had better not try to either sell any to the locals, nor let locals be seen drinking the DFbeer withb you

The 2nd part's easy...  drink beer , but make sure you have scratched of the DutyFree labelling!

the scratching off works, however it is a hard habit to break! - and one gets in trouble now at home, with Mrs following you around, picking up the scratchings

Would it be crass of me to infer that these items might shortly be available on ebay?

They will be available at the local outdoor market shortly.

People do a nice thing- Thaigeezers immediately try and find fault. Just another sad day on the internet folks.

Well done to THEM for being proactive.
