Death tolls rise in surging Israel-Gaza fighting

It's obviously that not Israel alone is responsible. They are part of it but the Palestinians are obviously also responsible for the fighting and the dead.

About the rocket attacks: Are the targeted Israeli raids with fighter jets and attack helicopter in which regularly lots of civilians die any better?

If Israel would not have the backing of the USA they would have to sit down with the Palestinians and find reasonable solutions. Now the right wing Israel government does what they want and Trump just let them do it. Justice? Sure not!

If it's so obvious, how come it doesn't feature in your own posts, or the author's column recommended? Reading either it would seem that the sole address as far as accountability goes is Israel.

As for Palestinian rocket attacks vs. Israeli air raids - legally, there is a difference. One is indiscriminate, and carried out against civilians, while the other uses acceptable targeting measures and public warnings. In the recent flare up, all the casualties on the Israeli side were civilian, while about half of the Palestinian casualty list is made out of Hamas and Islamic Jihad operatives. Going back to the previous point, Hamas and Islamic Jihad both invest many resources in the construction of underground command centers, arms storage facilities and attack tunnels. Conceivably, the same resources could have been used to provide better protection for the general populace. Priorities, priorities.

Bringing up contrived "what ifs", and asserting unfounded consequences is all very nice, but contributes little to the discussion or to a better understanding of the issues at hand. The Israeli-Palestinian conflict was in place long before US support became a thing, and it didn't show any signs of going anywhere even back then. And once more, let's head back to the first paragraph - how come no "what if" referencing the Palestinian rejectionist stance? Agreements and negotiations require more than one party.

Justice, just like peace, can mean pretty much what each side (or factions within each side, even) wish it to be. The illusion that there's some fully agreed upon, and generally accepted absolute "justice" (read: solution) is just that - an illusion. There are possible compromises, which both sides are either loath or unable to accept. Lack of leadership and vision is prevalent on both sides of the fence here. Casting it as a one sided affair is nothing but a false premise.

When no reasoned argument comes to mind, post a cliché.

I have a lot of "reasoned arguments", but it's impossible to have a reasoned discussion about Israel and it's actions on here, so I choose not to post them on here.

Even clichés have truth in them.

The wars and terrorism will never, ever come to an end on this planet. Imagine, if one day all wars and terrorist activities come to a complete stop. How many economies would collapse and how many flourishing countries now would go bankrupt?

Wars do have a purpose, a discrete one...
