Police have made one arrest after a near five million baht armed robbery of jewelry from a pawn shop in Bang Khae in western Bangkok.

Three men made off with about 120 items of jewelry from the Sirichai shop at the end of Petchkasem Soi 63.

The shop's 61 year old owner Sirichai Asaipanich was assaulted in the robbery last Thursday morning.

Police arrested the leader of the gang Nopanan Phuphitrungrot in Chaiyaphum on Saturday. He was found in possession of a large amount of the stolen loot.

He owns a jewelry shop in Krathum Baen in Samut Sakhon. He admitted his involvement telling the police that he had visited the shop before the robbery to offer some of his jewelry to pawn.

While there he had cased the joint using his insider knowledge of jewelry value and then invited two conspirators to join him in robbing the shop.

He said he kept half the 4.8 million baht stash of jewelry while the other two split the other half.

Police remained tight lipped about the remaining two suspects and their expected whereabouts.
