Driver gets a speeding ticket through the post - it's his registration but not his car

A car driver based in Phuket went to the police after he received a speeding notice through the post.

It was sent to his family home in Phitsanuloke; while the registration was the same it was not his car.

Pornchai Khamploi or Joe told Daily News Online that he drives a Ford and the car in the picture was a Toyota.

The offence - driving at 131 kmph - was committed in Phijit. He was in Phuket at that time.

The Phuket cops proved less than helpful.

They said it was a case of fake plates and told him to go to Phijit to sort it out.

The case caused much comment online after it was posted on Facebook.

This sort of thing or plate cloning as it is referred to in Britain used to happen a bit but the ANPR camera system they now use usually flags it up in seconds once a cam' has snapped a dodgy motor committing an offence and if the Police suspect dodgyness will put a stop marker on it and pull it over at the next available opportunity ..

Without number plates?

I know that this is fairly commonplace.   Plod in wifes family says just about anyone can get fake plates made up any time they want to, it just costs a bit more than if you want to replace a damaged/missing plate, for which you have to prove ownership of the vehicle.  No proof of ownership and it will cost you about 30% more and no questions asked.

ปwe had the same from BKK police, sent them a pic of our truck with same plates as a car, they said rip the ticket up.

Except there are very, very few cops on Thailand's roads...not much chance of them picking and offender up.

Yes but as you know...dealing with Police everywhere is a acquired taste.  (Not just in Thailand).  Manypeople just go online and pay the bill.  Saves them time, effort frustration etc etc etc
