Why target Boris though ?

It wasnt his slogan and numerous other people used that slogan .

He is in the running for Prime Minister and the people behind this Court action are using the judiciary system for Political means .

I wonder who the people behind this prosecution are ?

Terrible state of affairs really .

Law breakers should be prosecuted , but the law shouldnt be used to interfere with the political process .

You kind of expect that from third World Countries , the UK used to be above that kind of thing

Well the ECJ says different.

My issue is Lioner made a claim that "remainers" made the claim, I have challenged him to name names.

There's one for you already - Reuters! I'll add The Independent.

Go look for the others yourself.

If found guilty then the government of the day, whomever that may be by then , IMHO should launch an enquiry into why the British education system is so poor it produced 17 million people who were unable to grasp fact from fiction.

Sounds like the place is  becoming more  Thai  by  the day.

Boris Johnson has been ordered to appear in court over claims he lied by saying the UK gave the EU £350m a week.

The Tory leadership candidate has been accused of misconduct in public office after making the claim during the 2016 EU referendum campaign.

It is a private prosecution launched by campaigner Marcus Ball, who crowdfunded £200,000 for the case.

If everyone who signed the "Revoke Article 50" petition was to donate just £1 we could get another 30 of them Brexit storytellers  locked up.

One of the "lies " told was tht "cows would have to start wearing nappys"

F is for Fox. International secretary Liam Fox sold us on the idea of a glorious global Britain, once again creating new waves of international trading and prosperity. “The free trade agreement we will have to do should be one of the easiest in human history,” he said. F is also for F***ing Idiot.

That wasnt a lie though , he made a prediction and used the word "should be", he didnt say that it *will be*

Fact is this should be up Electoral Commision or the police to investigate and refer to the CPS to decide if there is a case to answer, but as this did not happen and we all have seen the photos I can only assume someone high in government should be investigated for "perverting the course of justice".

Interestingly both "misconduct in public office" and "perverting the course of justice" carry a maximum sentence of "life imprisonment", no doubt Archer and Atkin can advise on what to pack in the "go bag".

Better late than never. And it certainly doesn’t matter — unless you wanna say that a criminal offense becomes acceptable after 3 years.

You miss the point. An MP has never been taken to court before for lying during a political campaign. It's too much of a coincidence that this case has been given the nod just after Boris has put himself up for the PM job. That stinks of corruption.

The case is being crowdfunded by a group of remainers. There have been countless untruths told throughout this whole referendum/Brexit process by both sides.

Where do you draw the line? Shall we have every Labour MP who has said the Tories are going to privatise the NHS sent to court?

This bunch of remainers are setting a precedent here which could have all sorts of ramifications. All out of desperation to stop Brexit.

Boris in court will probably do his cause more good than harm.  Millions can see him being unfairly attacked by the very Establishment who are so fearful that he will actually, if PM, make sure that "No Deal" is on the table.

I hadn't thought of it like that, but given everything he touches turns to comedy gold/PR triumph you could well be right.

Elsewhere ITV news at ten carried a good interview with Raab; and Peston later had Hunt, Francois & Cleverly among others in the studio for a grilling. Some interesting stats during the programme revealed that the brexit party would have gained 414 seats in Parliament under FPTP whereas the Tories would have gained just ONE.

I thought the standards committee was in charge of misconduct in public office offences.

Did the rules change when I wasn't looking or is this fake news?

Also they would need to prove it was a deliberate lie, as being stupid or just plain wrong isn't an offence at all.

(If I were Boris, I'd go with stupid)

Except this allegations do not relate to Alexander Boris (man of the people) de Pfefll Johnson’s Parliamentary dilutes.

This is just a publicity stunt from some bitter Remoaners, the anti-democrats who cannot accept defeat with maturity and grace.

The message was "We send the EU 350 million a week". That is true. It is also true that they send 100 million back.

Was it misleading? Yeah, maybe. But then the Remainer statements that we'd lose over 500,000 job losses on a vote to leave was also misleading. The claim we'd have an emergency budget on a vote to leave was also misleading. Theresa May saying over 100 times that we'd leave on 29 March was also misleading. In fact, all of Project Fear was misleading. So if this is the precedent I guess we'll be seeing a lot of Remainers in court for the nonsense they were spouting in the build up to the referendum.

Plaintiff set to lose this one....the gross payment to the EU is 350 a week.....but there is a rebate. Boris gave the gross figure rather than the net figure, which is 150 million a week.

I was hoping more to see a graphic about that  Brexit party representation in the whole E.U. assembly , my only hope is you could veto another extension if the others would become so crazy to grant another one once more

Do grown up people still actually believe anything, from either side of the brexit camp, that politicians spout.

It's on a par with believing a hooker you just met that of course she loves you.

I never voted for an individual, only for a party, didn't matter who the individual was or the 'promises' they made.

Approx 350M gross and 250M net per week.

Gross (annual) figure has to be budgeted for but rebate is not actually sent to Brussels, as far as I can find.

Rebates will disappear according to Oettinger:

Phew, this easily beats all former "confusions" that Chomper usually suffers from.

I would love to have a sip of that (really excellent) Scotch that seems to stimulate this intellectual activity.
