The Interior Ministry’s Penal Police Department yesterday sent an American national to Phnom Penh Municipal Court after he was arrested for allegedly possessing guns illegally. Lieutenant General Ngeng Chaur, director of the Interior Ministry’s Penal Police Department, on the National Police website yesterday said that a US national is suspected of illegal possession of weapons and was sent to municipal court for questioning.

Lt Gen Chaur said that police arrested three suspects during a crackdown on a case of illegal possession and use of weapons in Chamkar Mon district’s Phsar Doeum Thkov commune. He identified the suspects as Abou Raman, a 30-year-old US national, 32-year-old Chinese national Li Pei Xian and 39-year-old Phoeun Sara. Police seized nine guns and 66 bullets.

Major General Eav Rith, deputy director at the ministry’s Penal Police Department, confirmed a US national was sent to court but did not provide any further details. “A US man was sent to municipal court but I don’t know any more details,” he said.
