Gambling: Prayut set to go after the cuddly toy "mafia"

Does that mean that all the fairs that go around the country that do things like hook the duck to get a prize or shoot the target or knock the coconut down will all be outlawed as they to would have to be treated in the same way . I find this all very confusing the Government hold a lottery I see the people selling the tickets on the street is this not classed as gambling, I would have thought that the lottery would be the thing that puts many into debt not some crane that lifts out a toy providing you have the skill to use it.

The lottery is clearly a money maker they don’t want to scrap so they are totally hypocritical in that respect.

That said, grabbing machines although on the face of it appear harmless enough I’ve witnessed Adults and Kids obsessed with these pumping in coins to win something they could of purchased for a fraction of their losses and that is the first seed sowed in the gambling mentality.

These toy claw machines can not be consiered as gambling or any kind of slot machine. They are a product out of the entertainment industry, and shall be classified like carousells, dart throwing booths and ball throwing booths at a fair or market. Anyway, all that is irrelevant.

What is very relevant and at the same time very frightening, is that a prime minister have to deal with all situations disregarding it´s size or importance. We ha ve come to the year of 2019, and most countries in the world have since long time back managed to set up different departments for different issues in society. They also only refer to the department in the news. Hera everybody need to stand in line in photos or be in charge or mentioned in the news at all times.

Are they really that scared to be forgotten? Maybe so, because it´s always easy to forget everything that always deliver nothing to the people.

What a bunch of nincompoops without the slightest sense of practicality.   There are millions of these things in China.   Is the Thai government making Thailand even more stringent than those places which are known for such things ?  Go buy your child a teddy bear and be done with it.

When you play an arcade game, you receive nothing.  Here you have a chance for  a reward for playing the game.  He is succeeding in killing all the fun; wet blanket and chief.

I guess skeeball lanes are next, and when those are banned it'll be ring toss followed by get-the-coin-in-the-bottle and basketball shoot and then all the other carney games until, one by one, all the amusement parks will have to shut down.

The only 'gambling' i see is whether the claws will hang on to the toy or not... other than that, these machines are just a big con and they have been around for many years and only in this country they're classified as gambling...Oh well...

He seems to have forgotten that he recently has been in the center of Thailand's biggest gambling scene - the election …

They're aimed at children.

No doubt the cabinet members were queuing up to play the machines just to check whether they should be considered gambling. One certain member of the Government was allegedly addicted to the machine below

Good on him, I’m far from being a fan of the military led govt, but these machines are a total con, run by mafia and exploiting young kids/gormless teens.

You must be kidding …

This is not about gambling - rather a innocent competition against your self where coordination and precision is in focus. Should they choose to go that path then you need to close down everything that you need to pay for where the intention is to winn or lose.

They could start with the state lottery which is a real form for gambling and not least constitutes a real risk of addiction …

But in Thailand gambling is illegal, yet there are so many addicted to gambling.

In counties where gambling is legal there is not such a problem.

Seems so many things are illegal here, but people still do them and take no notice of the law.  That is Thailand.  Do you really think removing these machines for toys is going to stop people gambling?  55.

In the UK, where gambling is legal, there are more than 400,000 people who have a problem controlling their gambling.

Problem gambling estimated at costing the U.K. between £260m and £1.16bn per
year:
Primary care (mental health) services (£10m - £40m)
Secondary mental health services (£30m - £110m)
Hospital inpatient services (£140m - £610m)
Unemployment benefit and lost labour tax receipts (£40m - £160m)
Statutory homelessness applications (£10m - £60m)
Incarcerations (£40m - £190m)

Figures above are from peer reviewed academic papers NOT the Daily Mail website.

If that's not a problem then what is?

The Lottery is the biggest thing in Thailand. It is run by the same government that want to ban the cuddly toy machines that cost 10 Baht,   Ticket sellers can be seen everywhere. People quite happily spend a days wages on tickets !  Isn't this gambling ????????

You think the machines are all set up to be fair then.

Fair ground bunkum targeting kids with cuddly toys.

Prayuth at work again. He wakes up in the morning and his only ambition is to improve the quality of life for the common Thai. A real hero.

This teddy bear removal will help to purify the nation.

He probably lost face to his grandson when he failed to catch him the teddy bear he promised …
